We are going to WDW 1/14 then the western cruise 1/18. We live in LA and would like to fly American because they have more leg room and we're all tall. They are offering LAX roundtrip to Orlando for $205 (includes taxes.) I want to jump on it but am wondering about which flight to book as a return. The one I want leaves Orlando at 12:38pm. I know it has been discussed alot on this board that we shouldn't plan to leave any earlier than noon. My husband has a Canadian passport and the rest of us are US. Will customs on the ship take longer because he is Canadian? Do you think 12:38 is to early? The next flight is 3:35. The fares expire tomorrow! What do you think?

because you DH is Canadian, he is going to have to report to Immigration in Off-beat at 6:30. (it might be 6).

You should have no problem making the 12:38 flight, unless the ship is delayed in arrival or diverted.

I wouldn't take the chance of booking the 12:30 flight. It's just cutting it too close and not leaving any room for delays or the unexpected. I say this because our last cruise our ship did not get back to port til after 9am and we didn't get off the ship til 10:30 am or so. Good thing we didn't have a flight that same day but some people did miss their early flights. We are also coming from the WEst Coast and just booked a good deal w/ American also..Our cruise is in July but the prices were so good...we got 256. per person from SFO..family of 5. I grabbed it considering that was the best I've ever seen esp. for summertime. Now the prices have gone up again over 500.00 per person and the flights I saw aren't even being offered....guess the TA's snatched them all. Go for the later time to be on the safe side...our flight back isn't leaving til 3:30 but then we're not stressed about it.

I just read the restrictions more closely. For tickets purchased after 10/1 there is a $100 charge if tickets are changed before departure. After departure they cannot be changed, they have no value and cannot be used for standby! So if the ship was late or security was slow we would have to purchase new tickets. I think I better book the 3:35pm flight home. Thanks for your help.

Oops! I won't be buying the tickets after 10/1, I have to buy them by tomorrow, 9/26. I'm losing it! I need a vacation!

We booked with United - Non-stop to Orlando for $225/roundtrip -

We did book the 12:35 flight back - After reading these posts, I hope we are not cutting it too close - Oh well, if we stay a little while, that will be OK -

Sounds like there are some good airfare deals to be had.

You will love American with their great leg room!

BEst of luck,

Karen

kaitlin'smom....where are you coming from? I could not find any United flights out of San Francisco Area cheaper than 600.00!! Non stop is only avail on one flight a day and it was too much. That's why we had to settle for 1 stop but much cheaper. Now the fares are back to what they were last week...500.00 plus.

We are from Southern California - We bought our tickets about a month ago - I couldn't believe the price when I saw it, so we bought them right away - They are from LAX - I didn't want to fly from there, but at this price, I couldn't pass it up.

I found the price on Orbitz.com - Take a look - Also look at Bestfares.com and Travelocity - I usually get some luck with one of those sites -

American is good - you'll love the leg room -

Well, I've learned a lot since yesterday. First of all, American Airlines does charge $100 change fee if we miss our flight. As of 10/1 tickets have no value if you want to change to another date, so that really doesn't apply to us. If the ship is late and we miss our 12:38 flight we will be charged $100 per ticket, or $700 in our case. The next flight is at 3:35pm.

So I called the trip insurance company (Access America) and yes, if the ship is late and we miss our flight they will reimburse us for the penalty. So I booked the 12:38 flight and got them for $205 including taxes from LA to Orlando and return! That really saved me some money! Thanks for everyone's help!

Hey - I think I need to call United and see about if we are delayed if our tickets would be cancelled -

Have you used that trip insurance before? How much did it cost?
Where did you get a hold of them? Any information would be great -

Thanks!

Karen

Karen,
The tickets aren't cancelled until the next day after the delay, but changes on the departure date are $100. You can search the internet for travel insurance but Access America was recommended to me. It's accessamerica.com

The price of the policy is determined by the age of the insured and cost of the trip. They have a pricing table that is very clear and easy to understand. I bought it within 14 days of my deposit so I could get additional coverage. I'm worried about having to cancel due to my father's health.

Good luck!

3:35 on EVERY time on my way home flight 215 American. Works great I think the other is too early.
