I went to Universal back in high school (a long time ago, LOL)...

My kids are 4 and 5...

When is a good time to take them to Universal/IOA? My impression is that it is for older kids?

:confused3

Sure they have to be bigger to do most of the rides but they do have places in the parks that kids that are that young can do such as fievels playland, curious george's play land , suesses landing and jurrasic play land and sure there are other places I missed and others can tell you but I think there is plenty they could do:thumbsup2

We went for the first time in March of 2006. Our son was 6 yrs old, and our daughter had just turned 4. They had a blast! They loved it so much they didn't stop talking about Universal for a year...so we went again in June of 2007.

Your kids will get more out of Universal if they are older, but there are certainly things for them to do there.

While there are things for the younger children to do, I think US/IOA caters more to the tween/teen ages.

We went in January for the first time. My son is 6 and he loved it. He went on most of the rides and enjoyed them (after I convinced him that nothing was real and they were all just shows put on for us).

My trip report outlines a bit more if you want to check it out:

We are planning on visiting WDW again this year in June. Haven't gone to Universal in over 10+ years! Wanted to go back but debating whether it is worth it or not. My kids are 6 and 3. Would a 3 year old be old enough to enjoy it?:confused3

My niece was with us for our trip last summer and she's 3.5. She had a great time. Suess' Landing (IOA) is wonderful for younger children, as is Fievel's Playground (US). She also liked the Sinbad show (IOA), ET (US), Barney (US), the animal show (US), the Beetlejuice review (US), Shrek (US), Jimmy Neutron (US), Curious George (US) and Woody Woodpecker (US).

My BIL isn't really into theme parks so we split up a lot (we had older kids with us too - 16, 14, 12 & 9). He'd take DN into the parks for a few hours and then they were both happy to go back to the vacation house, swim, nap, and just hang out.

My DD was 5 the first time i took her and now US and IOA are defo in her fave places to go .. Seuss Landing is amazing for little ones but there's things for them to go on everywhere i think .. Have a great time :thumbsup2

We've been going to US/IOA since 10DD was 3 1/2.

Sure as she got older there were new things she could do that she couldn't do before, but that is true with WDW also

There is plenty to keep a young child busy at US/IOA.
My theory is that the problem is that the US/IOA characters are not nostalgic for the parents, so they don't want to spend the time in the kids areas. There was actually a poster who said there was nothing for their small child to do and warned anyone with small children to stay away.
I pointed out all the things that their child could have done, and they basically said they refused to waste their time on Barney, Shrek, Jimmy Neutron, ET etc.

I agree with you cause if you are taking young children and refuse to take them to stuff like Barney,Shrek ,Jimmy neutron and et and the rest then its not the parks don't have enough for the child to do but because of the parents not willing to give in and do those things the child can do cause sure when we go there is stuff I don't want to do but my KIDS love and yes I wait around and let them do it.
