OK, so I've read the book twice and seen the movie twice. I'm about to watch it again.

Let's see if I can get through it without screaming at the television "You spoiled little twerp! Stop pining after the pansy trying to impregnate his own cousin when you have a REAL MAN who loves you (HORRID flaws and all) standing right in front of you!"

This is one of my favorites movies of all time. I guess that an interest spin you put on it:sad2:

Well, Clark Gable (Rhett Butler) had full dentures in real life and Vivian Leigh (Scarlett O'hara) said it was torture to do romance scenes with him because he didn't clean his dentures and the smell and taste gagged her. Just a bit of trivia knowledge for you!;)

Now see if anywhere in the movie or book Scarlett had said, "Rhett I can't love you because your lack of hygiene disgusts me" then I'd understand her behavior! :lmao:

LOL, true. I wish I had never read that bit of information because I can't watch the movie or see Clark Gable OR Vivian Leigh without thinking about that. It just ruined everything for me!!!

I can see that. Imaging Rhett with foul odor just doesn't do it for me.

Clark Gable was also a heavy smoker. Poor Vivian, that would disgust me as well!

GWTW has been a favourite of mine since I was young. It was well made movie for it's time in my opinion. Even though I have the movie on tape and DVD, I have to watch it when it airs on TV. :confused3 (same with WofOZ)

I LOVE LOVE LOVE that movie AND book....but I HATE the part where the city is burning. I don't know why, I always skip it.

Am I the only one who thinks Rhett was an ***? Not that Scarlett was any better, but he wasn't all that.

I think I deal with Rhett being an *** because he'll just say "I'm an ***. You don't like it, there's the door."

Scarlett on the other hand is just plain manipulative. At least with Rhett a spade's a spade.

I always felt bad for Rhett because he loved Scarlett so much but she didn't appreciate him.

I guess since she was so strong-willed she needed a pansy husband.

I could deal with Ashley being a pansy. Not everyone is a type A personality. But the cousin diddling, no matter how common it was back then, is just too much for me. I can't suspend my disbelief that far!

Um, you can't really hold Ashley marrying Melanie against him. In that time it wasn't really looked down upon to marry a cousin. You have to take it in a historical context before jumping to a decision to dislike him because of that. If you can't really sit through the movie because of that maybe you shouldn't attempt to watch it again.

I would have taken Rhett over Ashley any day. Rhett was good looking, smart, confident, and strong. Ashely was a wossey whimp IMO. Clark Gable was a good looking man. So is Timothy Dalton (?) who played Rhett in Scarlett.

Every summer I watch "GWTW". Then I read "GWTW" and "Scarlett". This year I watched and read "GWTW", "Scarlett", and "Rhett Butler's Family", all at the same time frame. I know "Rhett Butler's Family" was authorized by the Margret Mitchell family, but there are quite a few inaccuracies that bother me. An example is it had Rhett's mother dying before Bonnie. When we read "GWTW" we know Mrs. buttler was at Bonnie's funeral. There were other instances as well. I think "Scarlett" is a better follow up than "Rhett Butler's Family".

I've read "GWTW" about 7 times. It's my version of a trashy romance novel. Some do Harliquin, I do GWTW.
