Gondola Skyliner. How good is it running on average? Getting stuck or anything crazy?

Anyone have info on the average problems with the gondola. We will be staying at AOA and plan on using it for sure. But i am wondering if they have had problems with it stopping for long periods of time or just breaking at all. Hate to get stuck way up there for a long time!

We used it pretty solidly for over a week, and experienced not one breakdown. It stopped once or twice for a minute or two, but nothing that worried us.
the thing to be aware of is that it only starts running around 7-8am, and sometime DHS opens before this, so be prepared to catch a bus to DHS for an early start, but you can get Skyliner back.
the Skyliner was a hit with us, loved it, almost no waiting, rather than waiting for a bus,

Can't help with any real data but can tell you in a weeklong stay at CBR in December we used the Skyliner 20+ times (we hop a lot) and not once were we "stuck way up there". In fact, we never experienced a complete stoppage of the system.

Well, nothing is totally foolproof, but I have stayed at Pop for a total of 22 nights since the Skyliner opened, and the longest stop I have had was less than five minutes. It was on the Epcot line and I am sure it was related to loading ECV’s at Riviera. There have been a lot of times the Epcot line slowed way down, almost to a stop, and then speeds back up, and I am sure that is for the same reason. I didn’t have any issues on the Pop line or DHS line at all.

Did round trip from DHS to Epcot this past Saturday and Sunday. No problems at all during these trips.

Is this the new normal
I do think the early problems with the system have negatively skewed the view by many commenting online. As I mentioned we had no stoppages at all throughout a week of riding from CBR. There are "slowdowns" but it seems extended stoppages are quite rare recently. Let's hope that is the new normal.

My report.

January 18-23.

26 Flights on all 3 lines.

ZERO delays for ZERO minutes.

One 15 minute queue at CBR Station for Epcot Line/all others were walk-ons or under 5 minutes.

A new efficient, quick,FUN mode of Disney Transport has arrived-I see no way other lines will not be added.

I rode several times in October and never stopped once, love it. Watch all the threads on it; no reports of long stops recently.

Just as an FYI There is a Transportation Forum for these type questions. This is the Resort Forum

Someone in the transportation forum just posted (like I think this morning maybe) about being stuck for 30 minutes on a stopped gondola. But that's the only post I've seen about that kind of thing happening.

I think it’s more deeply rooted than that. Since the system was announced, plenty of posters here, on Twitter and FB were certain the system would be a failure. People would die by frying in the Florida heat, they would need to airlift guests stuck for hours over Hourglass lake, wheelchairs and strollers would stop the system every two seconds... When the system failed after a few days, those people got the validation they were looking for.

We were there in November, so granted it was newer then, but we only rode it once and had two separate stoppages of 5-10 minutes at a time. I don't like heights so was not a happy camper. Glad to see from the new reports it sounds like maybe it is running smoother now but it did really turn me off it.

We rode once from EPCOT to the studios in mid-January on a really nice day. I thought it was fine although the turn at BW was a bit fast and jerky for me. We don’t stay at SkyLiner resorts so unlikely to ride again unless we travel again between those two parks. I thought it would be good to try it. Unlikely to try again since we mostly stay at BWV and walking is just more relaxing to me.

The Skyliner Caribbean-Riviera-Epcot-Riviera-Caribbean line was not taking guests from approximately 10 am to 4:45 pm on 29-Jan-2020. The gondola cars were moving throughout the day, but without passengers. Hence, Riviera guests could not use the Skyliner to get to Epcot or HS during the outage. The other Skyliner lines were operational all day and you could exit at the Caribbean station and walk to the Riviera (~0.6 miles to the Riviera lobby).

The Riviera Resort did not provide any communication or signage alerting guests to the extended outage. You learned of the issue, by walking to the Riviera station and a cast member at the station entrance told you to walk back to the resort to the bus station. ↪

We discovered that you could call the "Front Desk" from the resort room phone and they had the operational status of the Skyliner. The Riviera bus station sign board continued to show "Use Skyliner" during the extended Skyliner outage.
