this dec 08 we will be staying for a week at BCV. want to do something completely different. has anyone got any tips for the golf courses or the segway tours - thanks in adv

We really enjoyed the Epcot segway tour and are planning on doing the one at Fort Wilderness later this year.

My Dh did the FW Segway tour in December.

He really enjoyed it!:thumbsup2

They have the OffRoad tires on them at FW and I think they took the path to VWL. He got a really nice LE Pin too!

We also used our DVC Discount

Our family of 4 did the Epcot Segway tour last summer and it was about the most fun I can remember having ever!! It was SOOO fun. My 2 older teens loved it and DH and I (50+'ers) had a blast. I highly recommend booking the first tour of the AM....it is SO fun to have the whole park to yourself and to get to wheel around the World Showcase and part of Future World while it is totally deserted.

Well, I did the Segway tour, and hated it. To be fair, the rest of my family loved it, but I am not particularly coordinated, and found that coordination helps a lot. I couldn't remember not to pull back on the handlebars, and leaning forward moves the Segway faster, which was scary when all the people entered the park and I had to go around them. I was so bad at this that the instructor told me not to do what the rest of the group was doing, which made for a very long morning. Frankly, after getting the instruction on how the Segway worked, I was ready to be done, but that wasn't an option at that time. Now they have the Segway tour divided up, so that people like me who are happy knowing how it works, and don't need all the driving thru the park--we can end it after the learning part. Then those that do the second part, the driving thru the park, pay more money for that second part. DH and family thought this was the highlight of their trip, but the experience ruined my trip.:sad1:

DH and I did the EPCOT Segway Tour and loved it. I was a little worried because I am not very coordinated. I agree with the recommendation to do it earlier in the AM because you have the whole park to yourself. Our tour guide gave us neat little facts about the World Showcase as we rode through it. We plan on trying the FW Segway Tour in October.

We've done both the Segway Tours (Epcot and Ft. Wilderness). We enjoyed both but the Ft. Wilderness one was definately my favorite. It was fun going around some of the campgrounds and doing a little off roading. I highly recommend either of them. Plus you get a DVC discount on both!

I really love to golf at WDW. At this point they have 4 18 hole courses and a 9 hole walking course. At some point in the future, the Osprey Ridge course will be closing down but until then, I would definitely make that a must play. The Palm and Magnolia courses are the courses that are played by the Pros at the Disney Tournament. They were basically built on a swamp, so there is a lot of water on the courses. The biggest draw back to the Palm and Magnolia courses is the noise created by the Richard Petty Experience attraction that is right across from the fifth green/sixth tee on the Palm course. Sometimes those cars get so loud, you can't concentrate. The Lake Buena Vista Course is the final course. It winds through the DVC OKW and SSR units. In my opinion it has some very nice holes and some pretty average holes.

If you are a DVC member definitely purchase an annual golf pass. This allows you to play after 10AM for $50.00 including cart. And the rate is good for each person in your foresome. Unless they increase the price of the Annual pass (currently $50.00) one player can pay for the pass in one round. It is good for a full year and the last time DW and I purchased one we got 32 rounds on it.

we're also heading down for a DEC 08 trip this year and i'm planning on doing some golfing w/my dad. we'll be there in JUN as well, and i will be buying the annual DVC membership then. not sure which course(s) we're going to play yet - we've never done any of them...but definitely looking forward to it, no matter which course we do.

i've never done either segway tour - but did do the abbreviated segway introduction in Innovations at Epcot. they let you ride a segway for about a minute to get the feel for it. it was pretty awesome...we're thinking about booking the FW tour for our JUN trip...

As to golf there are four 18 hole courses, all good to play, Osprey Ridge (where the new Four Seasons resort will be), Palm and Magnolia (at Shades of Green), and Lake Buena Vista (clubhouse at SSR and many holes go through OKW). There used to another, Eagle Pines which was next to the Osprey but it is closed as part of the plan for the new resort. They have not really started building yet so the Osprey may still be open in late 08 -- ultimately there is going to be one new golf course there which will be part Osprey, part Eagle Pines, and part new holes, which Disney will still operate.

There is also a 9-hole executive course, Oak Trails, usually heavily occupied by beginners and kids.

The Osprey is by far the best course, the prettiest and has two of the most impressive finishing holes you will ever see. It is ranked annually in top 100 resort courses. It is the hardest of the courses, along with the Palm, but Disney courses are not overly difficult or real easy. The Osprey is also the most expensive, except DVC members with the annual DVC golf card can play it and any of the 18-hole course for $50 a round in December (regular cost that time of year for Osprey is usually in the $125 range).

The Palm has the narrowest fairways and matches its name by having a lot of palm trees (and if you have ever hit your ball into the leaf portion at the top of a palm tree, you know that many times your ball will never be seen again because the palm devours it). It also has more holes with water hazards than others. Magnolia, which along with the Palm is used for the pro tournament, has the widest fairways but is the longest with the most number of par fours over 400 yards from regular men's tees with some going to 440. It has the signature Mickey-ear shaped sand trap on the 6th hole. Lake Buena Vista is the easiest of the courses (again not real easy) and you get the unenviable opportunity to hit stray golf balls that can take out spectators on the porches of OKW villas. You can reserve 90 days in advance for Dec if using DVC discount card, 14 days if using AP discount (30% off full price), 120 days if no discount program. However, you usually can get what you want at about a time you want if you call 30 days in advance and many of times of year 7 days in advance. If not a foursome, they automatically hook you up with others to make a foursome. You can rent clubs and shoes, but it is expensive to do so. Drink/food cart usually hits you about every four holes.

We have been on both Segway tours, and both are fantastic! They are, though quite different from each other. The Epcot one was cool because of where you go to ride (World Showcase), but the Fort Wilderness one was a lot more fun, because we learned a lot of little facts, and actually encountered wildlife on the trails etc. I think the "off road" aspect of the Wilderness one is what we liked best.

Can someone provide an area to find out information on segway tours, never heard of them before, going in Oct.

That's good to hear, Diane, as we have done both of the Epcot Segway tours and have the FW tour scheduled for May. DD's bf will be going with us and its his first time at WDW although he has been to DL before. I debated about booking the 2-hour Epcot tour but since DH, DD, and I have done it we thought we would try the FW one. You never know, we might decide we could use an off road Segway on our farm!!!!!

probably a silly question, but do you call MS to book tours? i'm considering the segway tour for DH & myself, & dolphins in depth for me. (my birthday was friday :cake: lol, & the DID tour is my present:banana: ).

also, i checked wdwig info, but much seems outdated: we have DVC, AP, AAA, disney visa ~ which would give the best discount (if applicable) & what would it be?

TYIA :)

Call 407-WDW-TOUR to sign up for the Segway Tours (or any tour for that matter).

Don't wait too long or the Segway tour may sell out. There is a limited number of spaces in each tour. Also, the FW Segway tour only runs on Tue, Fri and Sat.
