What are some of the better value courses to play on HH? Is it best to wait till we get there to make tee times (and to see which courses DVC has discount arrangements with) or can I call DVC-HH to see what there discount arrangements are and call ahead for tee times? As a single golfer, will they take tee times or do you need to just show up and hope to get paired up with a group that is short a player or two?

Doctor P - any chance you will be at HH the first week of August? I've been wondering the same questions as you. I'd love to play a round of golf while we are down there, but am wondering how well a solo golfer will be received at the courses. I wonder if some courses work with solos better than others?

A lot depends on how much you want to spend. My grandfather used to live there and he loved to play, but he was willing to spend LOTS of money. I would assume tha the Heritage course in Sea Pines is still one of the top courses. (It hosts a PGA stop right after the Masters)
I know from my brother that if you call as a solo or pair they will try to slot you with another small group.

I cant answer the question, but I can add another. With a family of 5, 3 of whom play golf(2 juniors), it is kind of tough to find room for 3 sets of clubs. Do the courses rent clubs? With the 2 DS's we will more than likely plan on playing in the afternoon.

I dont have the number off hand, but Iunderstand there is a phone number to call for reduced fee golf. You call the night prior, they let you know what courses have tee times. They schedule a time and course you want and at a savings of 30%-50%. I have seen this number on the boards before, and some family members have used it. They have been quite happy when using it.

Hi Dr. P,

If you are planning to play during the high busy season, you will getter better tee times if you can call in advance. My dh often plays as a single or part of a double and gets added on as part of a foursome usually (likewise, as a threesome, they have had singles added to them). I think they ask your level of play to pair you accordingly. If you want, I have an extra golf book for HH (the one that lists most of the courses, prices, locations and level) and can send it to you. Just pm me with your address. Yippee--we are headed to watch the Heritage Tournament next week (a family tradition)--hope that Phil is there!

Although I don't know about club rentals, I do know about playing as a solo. DH plays every year-the resort makes the reservation for him. When he shows up, like at WDW, the course always pairs him with others. I'm sure it comes as no surprise that the Harbourtown Golf Links (or whatever the name is) is NOT a "good value", but DH insisted every dedicated golfer needs to try it once. He's played Shippyard, Golden Bear @ Indigo Run, Palmetto Dunes/Robert Trent Jones, and Palmetto Dunes/Arthur Hill. His favorite by far was the Robert Trent Jones Course, which is relatively reasonable (well, reasonable for HH). He's also heard good things about the Country Club at Hilton Head, but it doesn't sound reasonably priced! I have a feeling that his goal is to play at every course on HH!
