My youngest son has just been for his 2nd golf lesson, first was on a wet day on the driving range and yesterday he was taken onto the golf course and had to hit the ball over some water on to the green and then was put on the edge of the green and took 5 strokes to get the ball in the hole. The instructor then made the parents have a go, I've never hit a golf ball in my life only on the crazy golf (i didn't think I should mention that) and you can guess where it landed. I'm just wondering what to take for his next lesson (took golf clubs and the trolley but found out we should have had tees and a ball marker) any advice from anyone would be appreciated. All the other children seem to have parents with them who know what they're doing I feel like a fish out of water but I have to admit I wouldn't mind having a go myself.

Personally I would have thought that if the sessions were for Juniors and were as an introduction to golf, that the Pro would have provided at least the basic equipment for the lessons :confused3

If that's not the case then as a minimum I would suggest you have some clubs, balls and tees and perhaps a towel or cloth to clean any mud off the balls or clubs at the appropriate times. Also maybe ask the pro who is running the lessons what he/she is planning to do in the next lesson and what they see as essential for you to bring :)

Fair play Lizzie. My DH won't let me near a golf club in case I get hooked and want to join him and his pals for their Saturday morning game. Does your son require a golf glove at this stage?

When I enquired about lessons they were already one week into the 9 week course and being the impatient person I am thought we would join Ashley anyway. Found out yesterday at lesson 2 we should have had a folder with some basic info in (told we would get it next week or the week after so not very impressed there) however Ashley is enjoying it and that is all that matters to me. With his learning difficulties I want to explore every opportunity to expand on his chance to learn something new. He picked up karate OK much to my surprise, he will be grading for black belt later this year.
I was asking for my benefit really as I feel I must look really 'green' (sorry for the pun) not knowing one end of a golf club to the other. I agree with you Alan that if we're paying for courses the basic equipment should be provided. After all if the child doesn't take to it you're stuck!

Clare D - we're up the road in Burton so maybe we could start a wives club!
