Golf discounts for DVC members

Are there DVC discounts available for rounds of golf at WDW? The only discount I was able to find on the DVC member site for golf was for the annual golf membership which DH doesn't think he would use enough.

Yes there is a discount. You pay $50.00 for a year pass. The golf is discounted, and I believe that you play after 10:00AM. DH bought a pass in November and played twice on our trip. When you book your tee times tell the pro shop that you are a DVC member and that you are going to buy a pass the first day of play. I also boked one tee time online for him.

It looks like another perk has been eliminated. For several years, golfers got discounted rates before 10:00 too. I remember when that perk started around 2002. DH was thrilled since he likes to golf early morning. I just came from the member's website, and from what I see there, it's going back to just a perk of lower rates after 10:00.

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping there was something earlier in the day that would be discounted that didn't require the $50 annual membership.

They did not eliminate pre-10. What they have done is, apparently effective today because the updated members' benefits manual is dated today, switch from going to a specific dollar discounted rated to a percentage discount, 40% off regular rate after ten and 25% before 10. I believe that is worse than what they previously had but not all the time. And you still need the $50 annual card.

Note if you have an annual pass you can get a 30% discount any time of day. The new 25% DVC discount for pre-ten times is worse than what we had before because what we had before was better than the AP discount for pre-ten times.

Thanks so much for this info! So it seems that DH is better off with an AP. Since DVC members get a discount on APs, I guess you could say that being a DVC member helps with golf rates before 10:00.

Does anyone have any suggestions on the best course to play? It will be my husband and 14 yr old son. My son is a beginner and my DH is admittedly a "hacker" so we aren't looking for the most challenging course just one they will enjoy.

Lake Buena Vista is probably the least challenging, but some people think it has too much water or that the fairways, since they're surrounded by buildings, seem too narrow. If water or buildings scare them, they might like Palm. Don't discount Oak Trail. DH really likes that course for beginners, who might prefer only 9 holes to the time it would take for 18. More importantly to him, many years ago he (a scratch golfer) took DS for his first ever round of golf at Oak Trail. It was fun enoungh for DS to enjoy, but at the same time, it was challenging enough and interesting enough for DH to enjoy also.
