Hello all :wave2:
My DH and his friend are fancying a spot of golf when on our hols in July and I wondered if any of you budding Tiger Woods knew of a good course, about a 9 holer, where they could hire the golf clubs as well.

We are staying in Davenport (highway 27) so near here would be better.

Thank you in advance :thumbsup2

DH played at a good one down the 192/Poinciana Boulvard which was Poinciana Country Club, they played at 2.00pm in light drizzle and the staff thought they were mad for

1 playing in the rain (Hey we are from Manchester you have to play in the rain)

2 for playing in such heat, but has you have a golf cart its not that hard and drinks are sold from golf buggies on the course.:rotfl:

The hired clubs and cart for around $30 each.

but have a look at http://www.golfholes.com/brorlan1.htm which details other courses in the area.

The best course (IMHO) is Diamond Back, in Haines City. Its an absolute cracker of a course.. sorry but they don't hire clubs.
Other good ones: Southern Dunes, Magnolia (on the PGA, Disney), Errol (3X 9 holes - very pretty), Legends etc....

There is a 9 hole course at Disney, but why go all that way and only play 9 holes??? When you can get 18 so cheaply?

Tell your DH to try this website....

If you sign up, they will send you discounted green fees!

They will pick up some fantastic bargains. Even Celebration are in this scheme now!

Also, they must go to Edwin Watts stores.. there are a few around Orlando. The stock of golf equipment is fantastic!!

Playing in July is no big deal.. just try and get a morning tee time (it does tend to rain around 2/3ish), and take a cool box, with a nice icey cold flannel in it! You get a lovely cool breeze on a buggy!! We love it!!

With regards to hiring clubs, Why don't they take half a set each, in one bag? It could be so restricting hiring clubs!
VA are doing a deal on extra baggage through July 15th, where you get your two bags + a golf bag. who are you flying with? As even charters only charge about £15 extra to take a golf bag?
Anyway, if you want more courses, or info, about playing over there, just pm me!

Tracy

A picture of the par three at legends, just at the top end of the 27!

I am not a golfer  but around the 27 area there are plenty of courses. Champions gate, Highlands Reserve etc. What about all the ones advertised on the coupon booklets that you find??

I recommend The Orange County National - about 10 minutes north of the 192. Used for the PGA final qualifying school for 2005 and 2006. Cost us $65 for a round with cart, lunch (Full sit down in the club house) and a $10 voucher for their shop all thrown in.

I think though that they are all pretty good where vger you play - just watch the heat. Mickey Mouse et al may get the advertisement but Florida is every bit as much a golf venue as it is disney.

Many, many thanks everyone for all the info. it's helped greatly :goodvibes

castanea1985 I have PM'd you :thumbsup2 It looks like you are going out to Florida at the same time as us

We played Orange County National last year and would endorse that recommendation.

We fly over again on Saturday 19th May and are booked to play:

- Orange County (again - see I told you it was good)

- WDW Palm Course (Magnolia was having some work done)

- Champions Gate

- Orange Lake Legends

- Falcons Fire

And on the morning of the Champions League final we'll also be playing either Legends or Diamondback.

Have played them both before and would also recommend either. Diamondback is very un-American though and unless you're accurate off the tee I suggest you take plenty of balls as the rough is like a jungle (I kid you not).

Wherever you end up playing have a cracking time though.

Mark,
Try looking at the prices on Golfnow.com website. To play Diamondback today it was $19 inc buggy. Out of the two... I would choose Diamondback! Its' a lovely course - very tight in places! Legends is more of a 'hitting out' course.
Have a great time. We can't wait til July, when we're going to get several rounds in!

My DS and DH played Falcons Fire last time we were there and thought it was a good course. They are hoping to play one of the Disney ones this time - probably Eagle Pines or Osprey Ridge, which I have been told are also very good.

We take 2 sets of clubs with us no problem. And just take one suitcase for all of us. Who are you flying with? We are going BA.

Thanks Tracy. All the others are pre booked but I'll definitely check out golfnow for Diamondback.

I played it last year and agree with your tight comment! I'm afraid I didn't play well on the day and spent most of my time in with the snakes. Hopefully this year will be a little better and I can actually see what the fairways at Diamondback look like (yeah right!).

Thanks again

Mark,
Although me and DD are pretty straight, my DH and DS are typical 'men' and are always in the rough! Seen snakes at both Diamondback and Magnolia! In 05, DH and I played a few courses up in SC, (only a days drive away) and DH had a few alligators to contend with!!! Saying that, we have also played with sheep, deer and canada geese too!
