Some help requested from you Golf Cart Guru's out there! A dear family friend has offered to let us take their golf cart to FW for our trip next month, thus saving us $50 per day! Here's the rub. We are a family of 4, my boys being 15 and 9. The cart has no back seat. I figured that My wife and I along with my youngest son could sit on the front bench, but my oldest son is 5'11" and 220lb.

I'm allowed to make some slight modifications to the cart as our friends have already been discussing painting it to make it look better with us. If I have to put a standard rear seat assembly on the cart, it will wipe out any savings from not renting a cart in the first place. The rear looks plenty big enough for him to sit on and put his feet in the golf bag footwell, but didn't know if this would fly with the CM's. I've though about buying some boat type seats from the local "whatever"-mart and sit them facing sideways on each rear fender, but wanted to consult the wisdom of the fort fiends first! HELP! :upsidedow

If you use the borrowed cart more than 7 days with the $350.00 or so rear seat kit it would pay for itself after that. If they let you keep using it.

I dont THINK the CMs have any say so about how you seat(or dont seat) passengers in your own personal cart. They have a right to get on you if its there cart...they have a right to get on you if your driving on their roads in an "unsafe for others" manner....I really dont WANT a back seat on my cart, because I think it looks so much more like a dunebuggy without it, and I want a roll-bar, but cant have a roll bar AND a backseat...so Im planning on my 11 yr old(nowhere near the size of your son!!!!!!) sitting exactly like you said...except maybe constructing a 12-16" padded bench for her boney little butt for when the cart goes over bumpy parts in the road, and maybe even rigging up some sort of a seat belt to hold her from flying off on quick starts...I cant imagine CMs saying anything about a kid wearing a seatbelt(even if I just make it out of a tie-down)sitting on a custom made rear seat(even if it only cost me $25 including upholstry).

I don't think that the CM's cares what you do as far as sitting for your own personal golf cart. Just make sure they have somewhere to hold onto and however they sit should be fine, we found this out the hard way whenever my Son-in-law got thrown off the back of ours, God that was worth every cent we paid for the cart. :thumbsup2

::yes:: Thanks for the responses! I may try to put a small padded plank across the back like you suggested Rog. Slap a few bungie cords across his waist and away we go!:drive:

I'm really hoping the FW bug bites the family hard...of course then I would need my OWN personal golf cart! LOL!:cool1:

I posted the rules for golf cart so you can read it your self but it says every one in the cart must have a seat.

yes, I saw that...thats a good thing to have as a sticky.

It doesnt define "a seat", and a padded, upholstered plank would pass as a seat I would think, especially if it had a seatbelt of somekind. Their carts dont even have belts.

Hi All. We went to Fort Wilderness for the day yesterday. I saw a ton of golf carts with people standing, sitting double seated and hanging off the back end. I am not sure if Disney security every bothered them, but alot of people were loaded down. Most of the carts were rented Disney carts.

We brought our golf cart out and had a couple people standing at different points due to all the coolers (and beer) we had to bring for the day. No one said anything to us. Disney security only bothered us one time because my sister and I were driving next to each other within the one lane and that is apparently against the rules.

I agree with you. I thank that would work for a seat no problem. I just thought If I posted that people could see what FW wanted.

A word of recommendation: make sure you get an 8' truck bed. Even without a rear seat you can't close the tailgate on the short bed with the golf cart in it. I got a folding rear foot rest on my rear seat just so I could close my tail gate at least partially and it still hits my tongue mounted LP gas tank cover in sharp turns going in and out of service stations and other drive ways. Even before I put the rear seat on, the frame of the golf cart stuck out just enough to keep the tail gate from going vertical and I had to make arrangements for it to be secured at a steep angle.

This would be helpful in that situation, wouldnt it...or would the weight of the cart be too much for the tailgate?

Yeah...I remember that...GREAT SERIES OF PICS, Lawnspecialties!!!

But Im wondering, where do you guys (that dont have TTs) put your luggage and gear when you have the cart in the cargo area?? This just hit me.

I might have to buy a trailer after all...and if I have a trailer, do I really even need a truck?

And why the HELL cant I get the dang steering wheel off of this darn cart???? Ive beat the living heck out of it with a rubber mallet, bruised my knees up trying topush it up and tore 3 fingers right off my hand trying to yank it off. I have a new steering wheel showing up in the mail today or tomorrow and cant get this cheap ugly original wheel off to save my life!!

A trailer sounds like a better idea to me... When we put our cart in the 8ft. truck bed the wheels do not go back as far as the tailgate. but we have to remove it cause the body of the cart sticks out too far. remember to put down the windshied when towing or you might loose it. and always tow with it facing forward.
