Golf Cart Dreams without the ToyHauler

Hey all, I thought I'd share my experience of many years desiring to have a golf cart to bring to "The Fort" but never owning a toy hauler. I own fifth wheels, so my options are very limited. I searched high and low. I drew unending designs that didn't get the job done effectively.

I'm pleased to show you what can be done by integrating and modifying a design by AmericanSpeedster, a motor solution out of Texas, a battery pack out of New Jersey, and some custom made changes by "yours truly".

My fiver has a platform style bike rack on the rear which handles 200lbs.

I was stopped often my last trip to chat about "the KampKar" - love to hear your feedback. It was so much fun to build. Can't wait to start the next generation with some mods.

What is that...schedule 40 PVC, copper tubing or some kind of metallic heavywall conduit? In any case, that's a sharp ride. You mentioned the motor, but it has pedals also. That makes it more of a hybrid than the Prius.

Schedule 40 PVC with the bottom tubes reinforced with steel pipe sleeved inside. And yes, it has pedals - I have actually ridden it from The Fort to DWL down the jogging path (cause it does have pedals )

Then down Surrey Bike path to the DWL pool and parked it by the Pool Bar

Its great for that!!!

But is there a motor on it too?? Your Kart is amazing as is, but if it had a motor on it, it would be incredible. Pedals to use for paths that don't allow motorized vehicles, but then a motor (even if small) to rest your legs and cruise around a little bit. I likey.

Oh yeah, it has a motor - ~30mph - I pass the golf carts at DFW!!! Its SOOO much fun.

Impressive - and the idea here being that part of this buggy can be dis-assembled to fit inside your 5th wheel or the back of yer truck?

I'll post more pics later - but yes it is designed to be partially disassembled.
- Seats come out
- Benches come off
- Battery is removed
- Roof and Roof Frame are removed (just a snapped on Sunbrella fabric roof).

At this point, the remaining frame assembled vehicle is about 90lbs. My wife and I stand it up on its rear frame (front wheels in the air). I can then "dead lift" it 15 inches up on to the back of my fifth wheel. *Several* ratchet straps are used to sinch the car down and foward. Its so snug, that i can hang on the frame without it moving. The rubber wheels cushion the load against the coach.

Everything else goes inside, no sweat. It actually all sits on or around my coaches dinette. Wa-la - instant KampKar.

Dimensions are 42" wide, 78" long. Its nearly identical to a golf cart.

Now that I think of it. If I didn't have the bike rack, I'm pretty certain i could load the four wheels onto two bike racks on the top of my truck. The kind with tracks for the wheels to sit in. Hmmmm.

that is FANTASTIC! We've been looking at different versions of surrey bikes, but I've never seen one modeled on a GC with the kids' seats facing backwards. Great job!!!!!!

Hate to say it, but i had to upgrade the brakes and rear rim this weekend cause i was sliding it around corners so fast i was shearing off the spokes from lateral stresses. It now has bmx rims that should holdbup fine.

The design talent on this board always amazes me. Do you have a pic from the back fully assembled? I see a tackle box and boat seats ?

Hmmm. You know i dont think that i have taken a shot from the rear. However, i can work on that.

Yes, there is a pair of boat seats ordered from walmart. I bolted them to 'rails' made of oak with slot routed out. I slip those into stiles i bolted to the frame.

The 'benches' are lowes wire shelving ( the hd stuff for the garage ) with custom made cushions covered in sunbrella fabric. Same stuff as on the roof.

Te lighting is all led. Its powered off of a surplus 48v to 12v dc converter.

The bats are from an electric wheelchair supply.

Motor and controller are from china imported by electricrider in texas.

The frame is a modified design from dan fleishman of american speedster.

The undercarriage is the same wire shelving used in the benches.

Oh yeah - and the tackle box is screwed down and is used to carry spare parts. Tie rod ends, fuses, self tapping screws, nuts, bolts wire, wirenuts, and of course, the all important bundle of zip strips. My DW tells me that i can fix anything with duct tape and zip strips. But thats another story.
