Okay all you HH experts, or at least some of you who have been there. Tell me all you know about golf in the surrounding areas. DH and I are planning a Fall '05 trip to HH and the more golf for him the better. It will help make up for all the times I made him ride Jungle Cruise LOL!! Will the front desk at HH make tee times for him? Which are the best courses? He is a pretty fair player! Cost? Just wanting to start gathering information and planning!

Thanks!

Golf? Of course you know DH can't go anywhere without golfing, including HH. Harbortown Golf Links-very pricy, but since the PGA Tour stops there in April, DH said he just HAD to play it once. Great for a once in a lifetime experience, but not the best buy, by any means. Last year, the front desk made DH's tee times at Shipyard and Indigo Run, the 2 courses DH played (mean ole DW here would only allow 2 days of golf!). He liked Shipyard, but not Indigo Run. Felt he was treated like an intruder there (like a Darn tourist!) and then the course wasn't even in the greatest shape. Maybe it was just a bad day. We had a very interesting talk with a CM named Matt, at the front desk, who's quite knowledgeable on the area courses. He recommended 2 courses across the street, Robert Trent Jones and Arthur Hills, so next time (3/05, we hope), DH will try those. He also recommended one just off island. I don't remember the name of it-it was to the left after you get off the island-Hilton Head Country Club? But talk to Matt at the front desk, he's got recommendations. Also, DH thought that by going through Disney for tee times, he paid a little less than he expected-maybe there's a discount, but he's not sure.

We played Harbour town and 2 of the Palmetto Dunes courses (Robert Trent Jones and Arthur Hills) this past March. Plametto Dunes courses are very close to the resort and its $220 for 2 rounds (any of 2 of the three courses). RTJ is a must play but not too impressed with Arthur Hills. The Fazio course is the other but did not play it. HT course is great but $250 a round.

Actually, the rates for golf -- and the availability of "specials" like those mentioned are seasonal. If you go in January, they will almost beg you to play their courses, LOL!!

DH and DS love all the Palmetto Dunes courses, but especially Robert Trent Jones because of the gorgeous ocean hole. They are also very fond of Indigo Run (Golden Bear). DS especially loves the GPS on the golf carts there!

We are hosting a golf weekend for some of DH's business associates next weekend, so they're going to play Harbour Town. I hope they don't get too addicted to it, because we certainly won't be able to afford it when it's not business-related!!

Have fun on Harbour Town, it's a great course and definately worth playing at least once (particularly when you're on exes LOL ) . I didn't think the rates offered through Disney were that special, but maybe that was just at that time of year there were a few courses eager to get some punters on the course ( early December). You can do some checking on the internet but I've found the best deals are usually available from the local freebee golf magazines you can pick up in the golf outlet stores in the area.

I found the rounds too expensive..I went off the island for half the price and the courses were still awesome!!

You guys are the best! Any other suggestions or tips?

Jdubbs: can you tell me a bit more about the off island courses?

thanks everyone!!

I played at Rose Hill and Eagles Point. They are not far from eachother..They are about 35 minutes from the disney resort going toward 95 right off the main road...They are both great courses.Like I said for half the price...enjoy

Thanks for all the great information! I'm sure I'll ask a similar question as it gets closer to time. We probably won't go until Later summer/fall of 05. But as DIS'ers know, it is never too early to start planning!!

:jumping1:

my golf experience at hh was rtj course at palmetto dunes, we were there in late august and the prices were pretty good for everywhere but harbortown, i think i paid less than $65 for a round at rtj, and it was a very enjoyable course, sometimes reminiscent of lbv at wdw. but the ocean hole can't be beat. and by using hh gs for tee time i believe that you do get a better rate.

it is a golfer's paradise.
