Golden Oak

Very hard to judge from a picture of one room. Take a look at the Golden Oak web site for a better idea of the size of these homes. And that $2 million number is basically a starter.

I come at it from the mindset that the functions of a house are to A) keep my out of the weather, B) keep people away from me and C) give me internet access. It doesn't take $2 million to achieve this. And in fact if the yard isn't that big, it doesn't even fulfill B very well.

I am not the target market.

Is a full size pool unfashionable or something? I can't imagine a two million plus dollar house without a big pool for swimming, to hold parties around and so on.

I travel in plebian circles ... but I've never seen a movie where an outdoor party was held at a mansion and the pool wasn't the main focal point of the visual layout.

I haven't checked acreage but I don't think this house is actually that big considering its price point. No doubt you are paying for location rather than land.

Now that you mention it ... the lots do look awfully cramped.

Wow - I'm amazed at how many of us apparently think there is something wrong with wanting one of these houses. No, they may not be for everybody but for those that can afford them, the homes are very, very nice. Each is custom built to the owners specifications. Basic model floor plans are changed to whatever the buyer wants (yes, at a cost of course) and interior finishes/fixtures are all specified by the owner.

I'm sure the the people who buy there have some amount of financial acumen and understand what they are getting for the price they are paying.

Oh, and none of that detracts from how cute our grand-dog is in that picture. :)

I haven't seen anyone saying something is wrong with wanting one of them. Criticising the house or the price is not the same as criticising the person.

It's a nice house. Is it $2 million worth of nice? Not sure about that.

No, it's not. My in laws looked at buying a home in Golden Oak. The lake view? A drainage ditch. Not to mention the houses are built on top of each other. There's definitely Disney pricing for value going on! They looked about 6-8 years ago, so not sure if anything has changed. They bought a vacation home in the mountains instead.

I would buy one if I could be sure I would always have access to extra magic hours. Ha ha ha

(sometimes I just crack myself up)

Wow, talk about a lack of privacy. I wouldn't want to be so jammed together at that price point or really any other to be honest.

I would love to have one of these houses because of the amenities you get with it but the lack of privacy is a no go. I'll just keep my country house.
