Golden Corral?

Lots of food and variety, none of it very good. We also call it the "trough."

It is one of the few places my dd ever wants to eat! The rolls are really good (the honey butter is awful, but you can get regular butter if you ask). We eat there because of the variety. You have to be careful though....some are really good, and some are just wretched!!! We have one near our house that is pretty inedible, and one about thirty minutes away which is usually good. My mom has one outside of Houston that is incredible!!!

Some Golden Corral's are corporately owned, and some are franchises. Some of the best ones are franchises, and some of the worst ones are franchises.

The steaks are really good, so it is a good place to get a steak and baked potato. The dessert pies are really good, and the selection of veggies is not bad.

Of course, ever since I have been pregnant, the smell of that place makes me want to throw up (I don't know why? Pregnancy is just insane!!), so I have not been joining my family for dinner there, but every so often we have humor the seven year-old and indulge her.

I would say, walk into your nearest Golden Corral and look at all the food before you pay for the buffet. If it doesn't look good.....just leave.

We like to call it the "trough"... it's good, for what it is - but I think it's a bit overpriced for a buffet, also.

Ha, I thought a friend and I were the only ones who called it that...it'll always be Golden Trough to me! :thumbsup2 Haven't eaten there in years, but I remember that they used to have OUTSTANDING macaroni and cheese.

I hadn't eaten there in years...but I've been there 3-4 times in the last year or so...there aren't many rest. close to me except fast food, Cracker Barrel, Applebees, and Golden Corral! :confused3 I actually went today with a family from school...had some kind of bourbon chicken with rice, carrots, mashed potatoes, it was nothing spectacular but not bad. I do love their rolls! The little girl I was with loves their stew (she picks out the veggies and eats no meat!) and the mom really liked the coconut shrimp and salad she had today. The carrot cake is usually pretty good for dessert. Like I said, nothing over the top amazing, but if you are hungry or don't know what you want it's a good place to go.

Oh, and at ours there is ALWAYS a line for the steaks....though I've never had one.

We call it the "trough", too! I like it because I don't have to cook, and the kids can get their own dinner. What more could I ask for? I agree on the pricing, it is a little high. And I always go out of there feeling like I am about to pop.

Ours is very clean, and busy so the food is always fresh. I have no complaints, it's a good place to get a lot of decent food...food I didn't have to cook..

We don't have a GC around here. We did eat at two different ones while on vacation. The ones we ate at were good we all enjoyed our meals. I did not feel they were overpriced at all.

If you get there areound 10:30am or so you can get a good breakfast then they start setting lunch out at 11 so it turns into a nice brunch. They have made to order omlettes or you can have them fry you up some eggs. We don't go so often because we pack on about 2 week's worth of calories in one meal but I'd go there before I went to Ryans. They also have 2 or 3 near WDW but they don't open up early enough for you to make the rope drop so we have breakfast someplace else.

They used to be really great. But in the last couple of years the ones near me have gone down in quality. Now it's kind of hit and miss. Some things are really good, some not so good. Their pot roast is always very good. And their rolls, which I really don't need to eat, are very good.

Think low budget frozen tv dinner quality.

I agree. My problem is more psychological. I hadn't puked in 17 years (think Seinfeld), and I did the afternoon after eating at GC the last time, and that was 7 years ago. No one else got sick, so it was probably a bug going around, but still, I just can't bring myself to go back.

Well, generally most of the Golden Corrals around here are terrible. Not very clean, over priced. I guess it varies from place to place. I have vistied them other places and the food has been ok.

our local GC has become a senior citizens gathering place. Not a bad food or anything and if I am feeling old my DH says well lets go to Golden Corral because we are the youngest poeple there by at least 50 years. :thumbsup2

I haven't been to one since the 80's, but I remember the "steak" was so horrible my dad joked that it stillhad marks where the joskey hit it, and the buffet was mostly fried bar food type stuff (the epitome of healthy, for sure) or salad. The dessert bar was a soft serve machine and fixins, and cookies/brownies, maybe a sheet cake.

I'd only advise going to GC if you are desperate to stap on the 'ol feedbag and gobble til you wobble. Garbage in, garbage out.

ITA. I only go to have the pot roast!

It's a buffet... not great, not horrible usually... and as always, overpriced for those of us who eat normal portion sizes.

The one out by us isn't bad. I went to the one out by DD in Oklahoma and that one was fantastic. Had a much better selection of food and it tasted better too. The service was much better there to. Go figure.:confused3
