Ok. Just purchased our first contract via resale and went online to look at AP's and the Gold Pass is clearly there for me to pick. I added it to the cart just to see if I was looking at it wrong. What does this mean? Clearly I'm not supposed to have this option. Can I buy this??

I believe when you go to guest services to activate the ticket you will need to present your "blue" member card which you do not get with a resale purchase after 4/4/16.

Ok. That makes sense. I got excited for a minute there. lol

But you might be okay. The Gold Pass is not a discounted Platinum Pass. It's is a pass that costs less because it has blackout dates, not because you're a DVC Member.
Now, the Gold Pass is only available to DVC Members and Florida residents. Is a resale buyer a DVC Member???

The following is posted on the annual pass page under perks & discounts:
This offer is part of Membership Extras. New purchasers after April 4, 2016 must purchase directly from Disney to have access to Membership Extras.

Click 'Read More' in the 'Purchase a Pass' section.
I see your quote, but it's clear as mud if that applies to Gold passes. Yes it says "these perks" (or something like that), but than in another section it says "certain perks, such as x, y, z..".
It never directly relates it to Gold. Normally it would be assumed, until it said "certain perks".

As I said earlier... *Might* be okay.
You very well may be correct.

It applies to any DVC priced annual pass.

That's sort of my point. A discounted Platinum is indeed a DVC priced AP.

A Gold is not. It's simply a non discounted *level* of pass. It's less expensive because there are blackout dates, not because of any DVC status.
Now, it's only available to DVC Members (and FL res).

Regardless, It's not worth arguing over.
The OP should try it if they would otherwise buy a Platinum. Worse case is upcharge to what they were willing to pay to start with.

I'm still waiting for someone to try. Worst case, you show up at the gate and have to pay the difference for the regular price Platinum Pass. If you would buy it anyway, it's worth a shot to see what happens. The whole "certain discounts" language is intentionally vague. We won't know what it actually means until we gain more experience. Heck, "Bad IT" might mean that it works regardless.

We've already had at least one report of a person who has non qualified points, bought the gold pass and was not allowed to activate it. There's also a growing body of evidence that it's truly DVD's intention to not allow the Gold pass for non qualified owners. And despite your assertion to the contrary, simply having access to the Gold Pass is a discount otherwise no one would care.

Ahh... one person reported it. It must be Gospel because as we all know Disney is super duper consistent.

Or maybe DVC wants you to see the gold pass and the discounted price to make you want to buy direct...... conspiracy???

The dollars just don't add up most of the time. There are times they can... 25 point direct, family of eight, 700 points resale.
But that doesn't fit the profile you describe.

The way I see it is Disney gives DVC & FL res access to gold passes in order to curb attendance during certain times. Those two groups are GUARANTEED to visit often.
In addition they offer FL residents even more restricted options in order to curb attendance even further, as without restrictions residents would overtake WDW.

I bought a DVC Gold pass, it only shows up as "available" for purchase under MDE that is linked to our DVC. Under my other MDE that is not linked to DVC the option to purchase it is not there. I was told by CM over the phone that I must show membership card (it is a direct contract) when I go to activate later this year.

A membership card is good....
