1) What are some of the benefits that you get different from silver?

2) What's that reception thing? I'm 13, can I go? What day is it? What food is there?

Some of the benefits are a % off of merchandise, you get a different welcome aboard gift, you can book excursions etc earlier and you can book cruises earlier when they are first released.

As far as the reception, I don't remember off hand if there is a age limit or not, but its a meeting so to speak with some of the ships officers, they have small things like Mickey ear rice kripy treats fruits and stuff like that. It used to be a fun time, where they would do some trivia, and yould get some inside info on new destinations that they were planning on going to and stuff like that. The last 2 that I have gone to, have been more of a DCL commercial then anything else. They still tell you tings, but its changed over the years and even possibly from ship to ship.

Its usually not a night, but during the day and it will vary from cruise to cruise and itinerary. I think it was during a sea day on the 4s and 7. Its usually not more then an hour either from the time it starts until it ends.

Yes, you can go to the CC reception. They are on the first sea days on 4 night or longer cruises. There will be a letter left in your cabin the night before the actual reception so you will know time and location but typically 10:30 AM.
There are various food items for example, brie cheese on crackers, sea food bites, fruit, cookies and alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. Mickey, Minnie, Goofy or Pluto will be there for photo ops. Not all of them. but definitely a couple of them working the room. The Captain will talk about how excited he is that you are there. Various officers will be there to shake hands and talk about things. The cruise director will also be there and introduce the captain and talk about things happening around the ship.
As you are leaving they will hand out wrapped Mickey head rice krispie treats. Some are chocolate covered and the others are plain.

I think it really depends on how many past passengers are on the ship as to the quality of the reception.

My last cruise, the reception was at 10:30am. We'd only finished breakfast an hour before.

There might have been 15 people at the reception. We got the food, drink and Mickey bars. Also, children were present.

Goofy was the only character present.

There was no Captain talk. He was a no show. We met officers from Housekeeping and the assistant CD. They rotated among the tables so there was no formal information presented.

Now, Panama Canal was totally different. So many past passengers, it took up almost the entire Goofy pool deck. Did not see any children present, but then there aren't that many on this itinerary.

I definitely wouldn't schedule my cruise around it, but it's usually the first sea day, so maybe you won't have anything else going on.

But yes, Kids of All Ages are allowed in the Castaway Club gatherings. Usually starts sometime between 10am and 11:30 on the first sea day of the cruise. Panama Canal is different - because half of the guests are CC members. I assume its the same for the Atlantic crossings - different day and LOTS of people.

Yes when you leave they hand you a Rice Krispie mickey not a Mickey bar, bar I think ice cream...lol Chocolate dipped ones are the first to go...

No it is usually in one of the bars. Ours was in Evolution Deck 4. on the Dream. Ours was on the last sea day ( Thursday) at 10:00 am.

Kids are allowed over on that side during the day.

Oh and they will give you more then one rice krispy mickey if you ask....

usually the CC event is in one of the lounges in the adult entertainment area. So on the Dream - it would most likely be in Evolution.

On both of my Panama Canal cruise, we were up at the Goofy (family) pool - because there were 800 - 1000 CC members onboard.

Our last cruise (Wonder in January) I don't remember getting an invite to a CC event (I'm Platinum). But we had Palo Brunch ressies at the "normal" time so I might have just ignored / blocked the invite from my memory.

My 6th cruise was an Alaska itinerary and none of the characters were there for the reception, and it was pretty blah other than the Mickey krispies. Not too many people there, and it was pretty much as truck1 described, a DCL commercial. Then I did a 3-night so there wasn't a reception since there wasn't a sea day. And the next cruise it conflicted with something else I wanted to do. Maybe a movie? Guess I'll have to try another one.

We have been able to go to 5 out of 7 in recent times and definitely the amount of people fluctuates. I think the 7 night cruises have a better turn out because you are less pressed to do things.
Our first CC reception was on the Fantasy and there were maybe 10 people total in attendance. Captain Thord was there along with Captain Mickey and of course I forgot my camera.
Second time (again the Fantasy) the Tube was jammed and we barely found a seat. Minnie mouse was there that time and stood on the stage while people lined up for a photo op.
Third time, was a 4 night cruise and it was like a tomb in there. I cannot remember who the Captain was, but it was again Minnie Mouse.
Fourth time was a 4 night cruise on the Dream and it was a bit busier. I think they sent the second in command and it was Goofy who made the rounds in the room for photo ops.
Fifth time was on the Fantasy again. Captain Fabian was there, Jimmy was the CD and he was there. Goofy and Pluto were moving around the room and bouncing off each other. It was pretty packed too.
All of them were at 10:30 on the first sea day Evolution on the Dream and Tube on the Fantasy.
We just finished our 12th cruise in February though and became gold in September 2015 and we did 5 cruises in 2016. Two were seven night, 2 were 4 night and 1 was a three night where there was no CC reception.
We like to talk to the officers and shake hands with the Captain, not so much into the food as we usually have just finished breakfast. Sure do love those Mickey rice krispie treats.

On the Dream in 15, we had Pluto, and on the Fantasy in 13 we had Mickey. I don't remember who we had in 12 for the Fantasys Maiden but at the same time, they were doing some age restrictions on different things. They may have had an age restriction on that cruise. I know we had Goofy on 1 of the cruises.
