Gold chain with a cross - help please

My son is turning 18 on Saturday and he would like a gold chain with a cross. I have no idea where to start. I figure that if i go to a regular jewelry store it would be wicked expensive. I haven't shopped for something like this in 20 years. I don't know - rope chain - serpintine, how long? ugh.....

I would check kohls if there is one around you. Also I have seen them at walmart.

Walmart has had some pretty crosses, also Macy's (I got a really pretty one on sale for my son there). J.C. Penney had some too. A chain of about 22 or 24 inches in length is good on a young man.

Write a note that promises a shopping trip with lunch or an hour of shopping on the internet..... and then let him pick out exactly what he wants.

If you need additional birthday ideas food is always a great idea. Buy all the junk stuff that he loves that you only buy as special treats.... One year Santa went to my girlfriend's house and put whipped cream (in the can) in all her children's stockings. They ate it right from the can!

If he plans to wear it all the time as many men do, then get a box chain if you can; those are among the strongest. Stay away from serpentine, they are very weak.

I agree with the box chain. I've worn mine night and day and it has never broken (except with each of my kid's pulling on it when they were babies!)

I bought one at JCPenny and they have a pretty good selection with decent prices if you get a sale.

I see you are in MA? How close are you to Boston? If you can get to the Jeweler's Building, there are many stores that can help you.
