Going with friends who need to rent points or pay cash

Hi, we will be going in jan with some friends of ours. We have DVC and are planning on staying at AKL kidani in a savannah studio. this is a short trip for the Marathon so we were trying not to spend a ton of points. We do not have that many points so we cannot really afford to book a room for our friends. Is there a way for them to rent points from another member but still request a room near us? or do I have to book the room with my points in order to make sure they are near us?
Also, if they just booked a room on cash would they be able to be near us or are the rooms set up so that all DVC rooms are on certain floors/areas and cash are in completely different areas?

They can make the request whether they use cash or points, but there are no guarantees either way.

If they rent points, the owner that makes the reservation for them will need to add the request to the reservation.

Remember that Marathon time is very busy at Disney, and there may be little to no availability already.

ok thanks, We actually booked ours at our 11 month mark because we own at AK Kidani, but they just decided to run in the marathon, so they are a little behind. Thanks I will let them know. Oh and I realize it is just a request, unless of course I book a 2BR lockoff or do it with my points and link my reservation or whatever. But thanks again for your help

When we decided to go with my sister, we had points transferred into our account, and then made the reservation.

My sister was able to pay directly for the transfer so that dh and I never had to handle the money.

We have gone with non DVC friends who paid cash for villas twice now. We always both make the requests to be near each other. It really just depends on how the hotel is filled before you arrive. One time we were at VWL and they got us rooms that were just a studio between us and the other time at BWV we were on totally different floors.

But just being in the same place was super helpful, we could easily go to each other's rooms and meet up in the lobby in the morning.

I was actually just thinking that this might be the easiest way to go. can you tell me how to do this? Where should I go to find points to be transferred? Is the points to borrow or transfer thread on here the best place?

Be sure to visit the DVC Rent/Trade Board here on the DIS. That is the only board we allow transactions such as transfers to be posted or conducted on. Good luck!

Went with my sister one time. She was the dvc member at the time. She gave us a few points. ( enought to stay in a studio ) We needed a 2 bdrm though as we had more then 2 kids. No BLT or AKV at the time. Anyway we rented points from another member to make up the difference. They transfered to points to my sisters account after we payed for them. So she actually made the reservation for us. Hope this helps.

p.s. we were hooked on dvc after that, so don't forget to warn your friends.

For us, we went to the rent/trade board for them. I sent PMs to a few people. I went through a few actually because I was EXTREMELY cautious. I mean as much as I don't want to lose my own $1000...I really don't want to lose my sister & BIL's money.

Anyway...I found somebody...gave them BIL's email address or vice versa. They then worked it all out. I think BIL gave the other party half, then called me, I called MS to make sure the points were there...(MS had our hard to book ressies...so I made my reservations.) BIL called me in a panic...and I told him to pay the lady the other half, that I had the points.

I'm not sure about this...I think MS sent me Sis's confirmation...but they may have sent it to her. Also, you do need your family/friends names, addresses, ages, and maybe even telephone and email when you make the reservation.

It went very smoothly.

I should have called back to make the reservations. It just took too long. Its just when MS says they can make 2 studio reservations at Beach Club for the week of 4th of July...its hard to say...ummm....I'll call you back.

There are also some rules concerning the use of the points that you may want to make yourself aware of. I believe that the points transferred keep the resort and UY attached to it. Plus, there is something you can't do with transferred points.
