My son broke both bones in his left arm today and I am wondering how that might effect our trip. He'll be turning 5 on the trip so he is still quite young. I've been told by someone else that it didn't really affect her at all and she got all the princesses to sign her cast. :) I had thought though that we would be swimming at the hotel and letting him play in the water in Bugs Land and now I'm wondering how to accomplish that. :sad2: And what about Grizzly River Rapids? Has anyone ever dealt witht this problem successfully? He'll get a proper cast on next Friday and I'll talk with the dr. about options then but was wondering what ideas you guys might have.

We had a similar issue when our 2yo DD broke her leg the day before we flew from New Zealand for 18 days in the US including Disneyland. What a nightmare!! We managed to get this thing that looked like a giant condom which we put on everytime she was doing a water activity or swimming. It worked great! I just Googled "cast cover" and it came up with a couple of options so I'm sure you'll find something suitable

as a former bullrider and just allaround idiot I have broken many a bones and I just got two words for you Plastic Bag!! but seriously except for swimming the cast on his arm shouldn't stop him from doing to much and as far as GRR or splash just get a cheap poncho and put it on him before each ride so that it doesn't get to wet you can also wrap the cast in cyran wrap and tape off the ends so that it is completely covered and protected

Tass, sorry to hear about your DS's arm. :confused3 Looks like you've gotten some good ideas though.

Have a great time! :goodvibes

We have travelled to DL with a broken arm too. One thing to check - if you are flying, the doctor will need split the cast, to avoid swelling whilst in the air. So let them know if that is your plan.

You can as others have said buy a cast cover for swimming, and you can also enquire about waterproof casts too.

You should be able to enjoy all the rides without worrying too much - the double break normally means a cast above the elbow though, and i would def recommend taking a sling to support it. it will swell if left unsuppported too long (say walking around all day), and is quite heavy.

have fun

Thanks everyone. We'll be driving so at least flying won't be an issue. Thanks for the ideas. I looked up the water proof cover thign and it is a bit pricey for me right now so I will look into the alternatives.

Goofy he loves his sling or at least always wants it on. The first night he slept without it but it had to be right by him so he knew where it was. Last night he woke up twice wanting the sling on so we put it back on and he slept the rest of the night through. I don't know if it is more comfortable to sleep with it on or if it is more physcological.

Anyhow thanks for the help guys.

I broke my arm before a trip to DL/Knotts when I was 11 and I remember them asking my dad how long I had been in the cast before they let me on the roller coasters and jerky rides. I was only a week before getting it off though and it was up to my shoulder. Bring the sling for sure. Some plastic trash bags will work fine for everything but swimming.

Good luck!

Not sure if Saran Wrap would work that well for swimming but it's certainly OK for water rides. As is a plain old plastic bag. But for swimming maybe look online for a cast cover as a PP suggested. Take the sling for him to use and be prepared for it to swell and hurt, if it does some ibuprofen will help with the swelling and the pain but be sure to talk to his dr about it before you leave. :)

I hope your DS is feeling better soon!
