.... my dh and I both qualified for a chance to win a trip to WDW.... there will be no more than 150 people in the drawing. I know, don't worry about it, there's a good chance we WON'T win.... but it's a trip for 2. I'm not sure we can scrape up the $$ to add the kids and I'm not sure I can go and have a good time if I don't take them.

I want to hear opinions on both sides. What do YOU think???

I've been twice without my kids. Once for 3 nights and once for 4. We had an unbelievably awesome time and can't wait to do it again. However, we also went WITH the kids another time that year. If my trips there were infrequent, I personally would have felt too guilty and would have picked another destination to go away without them.

I think you should just go and have a great time! If you win the trip, you can't turn it down!!

Our trips are infrequent.... so far once in 2003 and once in 2005.... probably won't go again until 2008. That makes me sad. :guilty:

DH & I have talked about doing this & we could not. But we are BIG Pushovers. My Mother says were fruitcakes.

I would not go without my children. It is not the kind of trip I would enjoy doing as a couple or w ithout children, my own or someone elses.

I don't think there is anything wrong with going without the kids if you think you'd have fun.

But what if you WON a trip for TWO? Would you turn it down? I certainly couldn't CHOOSE between the kids.....

If I won and couldn't afford to take the kids, I'd go without them! Hey, it's not like you planned to do it. It's just the hand fate dealt you. But be prepared for some major whining and complaining!

Good luck, Mermaid. I hope you do win. :)

Janice and Lindsay- thanks! My dd posts here and when she gets home from work, expect her to crash this thread! Actually, she'd be more understanding than her 9 year old brother.... :rotfl2:

For all the parents that could not/ would not go to WDW without your kids, how will you feel when your kids choose not to go anywhere with you? It happens more than you think , and more often starting at a younger age, say at 13, 14, or 15.

Just something to think about.

Ok, no brainer here!!! I would certainly go without my kids, of course, my "kids" are 16 and 19. I would love a trip with just DH and myself!!! Matter of fact, I think we are long overdue for one!!!

I would have no problem going without our children, ages 14, 19, 21, and 25 :teeth: . Even at a younger age I would have no problem, I just wouldn't make a habit of it. We have taken the children on nice vacations before, so I really wouldn't feel like I was depriving them. In April '07 me, DH, and another couple from were I work will be sailing on the Freedom of the Seas. No children :cool1: .

This is a great opportunity. I personally wouldn't turn it down just because the kids can't go. Our kids leave us at home alone :cheer2: :cheer2: all the time while they are out having a great time!!

DH and I have been going to WDW without the kids once a year (for our anniversary) since 1997 (which was our 10th anniversary).

The kids (who are now 11 & 14) understand that sometimes Mom & Dad need a little time for themselves. However, since we live in Florida they get to go to WDW at least four other times during the year, so it doesn't bother them as much. You'd be surprised how much more there is to see and do at WDW when you're without the kids!

If you win the trip, I don't see how your kids would have a hard time about you going without them.

My kids are 9 & 15. We would go without them if Grandma came to stay.:teeth:
I call that a win-win!!! Kids love having Grandma all to themselves.:goodvibes

I would love to have a get a way trip to WDW without the kids. However....our kids would probably lynch us if we did! :rotfl2: They don't mind the thought of us getting away together, just as long as it's somewhere else. Disney however is another ball game. :teeth:

My mom and I just booked a trip today during free dining. I have no problem in not taking my children. However, I won't be telling them where I am going or discussing it around them! (BTW, they are 6 and 4 and just love WDW!) Dh and I are taking them back in December so I don't feel as bad ;)

We plan to go back a few times before we have kids, but once we have them I don't see us going without them (but then again, we would be flying a couple of thousand miles away and across to another continent!).

We'll also be waiting until they can walk, talk and use the toilet (it's a 9hr flight!).

Every parent needs a little R&R. If you win the trip w/o the children.......GO!
I am a mother of 3 small ones 18 mos, 5 and 8. I would go!
This may be a sign that you and your DH deserve it or need it! ;)
My husband and I took a trip alone to Disney in early Feb of this year, We are taking the children this month.

I see nothing wrong with going to WDW without your kids. You and your husband will still have fun even without the kids.

Good luck in the drawing!
