going to wdw when pregnant

we were married at wdw in march & my maid of honor was 5 months pregnant & went to magic kingdom 1/2 day, mgm 1/2 day & epcot for 1 full day during her 5 day trip. she still had a good time but just needed to take it slow, take breaks & stay hydrated. she did all the sit down rides & even soarin at epcot & was fine. she really enjoyed epcot & all the snack shops. we also went to the spa for an afternoon of rest & thanks for my bridal luncheon. she said she loved the mommy to be massage, so thats an idea for midweek. just let her go at her own pace & congratulations!

Thanks all - I see a common thread here... hydrate! I was reading on another thread last night that you can have Staples deliver a case of water to your hotel for about $6 (no delivery charge). I'm definitely going to do that!

The only thing I'm bummed about is the Safari ride - I always enjoy doing it, but I guess it is pretty bumpy, huh? :simba:

wow never thought i would give this many responses thanks i appreciate it and we did know we were pregnant when we planned it

I went when I was five months pregnant with dh, ds4, dd2. Yes, I planned it after finding out. I'd go with 10 kids and pregnant...I'd find a way!!! One thing my dr. recommended and really made a difference for me was a wide brimmed straw hat...maybe not the most fashionable thing in the world but they've got better ones now! Actually, one of the only rides I "disobeyed" the warning sign on was the Safari and it was no big deal...I just braced my legs and let my arms absorb alot of the bumping (I didn't think it was very bumpy anyway) and loved it. By the way, last year we, along with my sister's family, were scheduled to go in October, but found out I was pregnant with my 4th and due in October! I actually called her from the delivery room on her cell phone while she was in Magic Kingdom to announce the birth of her newest nephew!!! (Thinking about them being at Magic Kingdom that day was a real distraction!) We're (me, dh, ds8, dd6, dd3, ds10mos) are going back in August! You will have a blast! Oh yeah, we were so pleased with how accomodating people were on the transportation. It was one time I was thankful that I looked 15 mos. pregnant at only 5 mos!!!

I went last May at 5 months pregnant, along with DH DS2,DD5. If you are not currently walking as exercise, you may want to start. No matter how much you rest, there is still a lot of walking. By the end of our 9 day trip, my hips really ached. I followed all of the recomendations about ride restrictions. I wanted to try the safari, so dh went with kids. He said it was way too bumpy.

The worst part for me was the bus. DH had the double stroller, which left me with the kids. Carrying the sleeping 2yr old onto the bus was quite difficult (but easier than carrying the stroller) Also, we once made the mistake of getting onto a bus that was already filled. People filed on after us, so we couldn't get off. It is hard for me to keep my balance while standing on a moving bus under the best of circumstances -- while pregnant and holding onto a child it was horrible.

I realize all women are different when it comes to being pregnant, BUT...

just as an FYI, all three of our boys vacationed in WDW before they were born. The first one was early (3 months), the second one was between 4 and 5 months along, and the last one was over 6 months along. Considering I was almost 40 when I had the third son, and we had the 5-year-old and the two year old along with us, it must have been both doable and enjoyable since we kept going back.

We went around Thanksgiving for all of our trips in those days, so the heat wasn't much of a factor for us. Comfy clothes and shoes are a must. I just carried one bottle of water into the parks and filled it up as needed during the day. It worked.

I did stay off of Space Mountain in those days, but other than that it was business as usual for our vacation. I don't remember having to go back to the room to 'rest' even once since there was so much to enjoy. If you have kept your normal activity schedule during pregnancy prior to going to WDW, you should not notice a huge difference touring the parks pregnant vs. not pregnant. Just enjoy at your own pace!

And for something to look forward to---we traveled with each of the boys when they were in strollers as well. I remember one trip where we were all sure the 7 month old had the best time of anyone constantly smiling and waving to everyone as he was entertained with all of the scenery, people and new sights. We always took a very small, fold-up stroller with us and didn't need to rent one of those huge plastic battering rams.

Have a great time!

I went in November ('02) when I was 6 months pregnant. I felt great, but then again the weather and (lack of) crowds were great. Heat in August would concern me, even if not pregnant. Especially coming from an area where you're not used to sweltering heat and humidity.

One thing your wife can use is a portable seat that golfers use. She can use it in the long lines. I bought one and never had to use it as there were no long lines!!

Good luck and enjoy the new little one!

Oh! And I planned the trip BECAUSE I was pregnant with my fourth and wanted my other three to experience it before things got crazy with a baby...

Yes, I went to WDW in July when I was 7&1/2 months pregnant. I went with my dh and ds(who was 17months old at the time.) It was one of my most favorite trips. It is important to remember to rest, as I had difficulty doing this (it's just TOO exciting in the World) and I ended up sore when I came home. Otherwise, it was a fantastic trip! :)
