me and my wife are going to the magic kindom and mgm studios the first week in august my wife will be about 5 months pregnant at the time was wondering if anyone else has any idea how it will be for pregnant women our have gone before while pregnant we know she cant go on rollercoasters our things of that nature but was thinking rides like winnie the pooh, peter pan those kinds of rides would be ok anyone have any ideas on what rides would be to rough our if she will even be allowed to go on any rides thanks for the help

Going 8/13-8/18 with family including my DD who will be 5 mo pregnant then. She had a doctors appt. this morning, and Dr. told her to just avoid rough/jolting type rides. Use common sense. The Dr. was more concerned that she was taking plenty of breaks throughout the day, and had plenty of water. She bought herself a personal mister, at Walmart today. It holds enough water to last for 2 hours, and you can refill the water anytime. Also she can put ice in it to keep the mist even colder.
Have a great time! I know we will. :thumbsup2

The biggest thing she will face is FL heat and humidity in Aug. Not fun, even when youre not preggo! I went in Jan. '05 when I was about 3 mos preggo. The most important thing is to make sure she drinks lots and lots of water. Even in winter I found that I was thristy from just all the walking we did (and this wasnt when I was preggo). Be sure that she takes frequent breaks out of the sun, preferably in the ac, and she needs to wear sunscreen to avoid the famous mask of pregnancy. Keep an eye on swelling feet, and prop them up whenever possible. And of course, be sure to get your drs ok before going. Avoid any rides that spin, bump, jerk, drop, and have warnings. As long as shes not too big, she should still be able to fit into the rides with lap bars. Also keep an eye on the weather. I would hate to be stuck down there with a hurricane coming, especially when preggo! Otherwise, try to have a great time and enjoy your last few months of freedom! Congrats too!

I was at WDW for a week in July 2003 while I was 5 mo pregnant. I found that simply walking at a normal pace triggered Braxton-Hicks contractions for me. I had to constantly drink water and walk quite slowly to prevent this from occurring. My best suggestions - spend lots of time at the lazy rivers in Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach; the parks are far more bearable after sunset; slow down your pace and you can have your best most memorable vacation yet!

We went in Feb and I was about 3 months pregnant then. My biggest thrill was the drop on Pirates. I sat at the front and put my arms up. Make sure she drinks lots of water and that you take breaks. I went back to my room almost every day around 2-3 and had a nap. DH could tell I would just loose all energy and he would take me back to our resort and let me sleep for a hour and then I was good to go.
She can go on everything that doesnt have the warning which is actually quite a bit. Have fun !

I went last Oct when I was preggie with DD. The most important thing for me was walking slow. As for the rides here is a last of the ones I rode with no problem; Pirates, Pooh, Haunted Mansion, Peter Pan, Buzz, Stitch, Jungle Cruise, IASW, Snow White, TTA, Spaceship Earth, EEA, Soarin', Figment, Living w/ Land, Maelstrom, El Rio Del Teimpo, Backlot Tour, Great Movie Ride, I also rode KS in AK but I was only 3 months along and would ask her doctor before riding that at 5 months. Good luck and enjoy your trip. :thumbsup2

I went in January at 7mos. pregnant. The best advise is just to not push herself too hard. If that means riding more benches than rides then so be it. Also make sure to stay hydrated. My rule of thumb for riding was if DD then 2 was too short to ride something then I shouldn't be going on it either. The only exception I made for that was Soarin' which I had DH check out for me beforehand.

I went in October when I was 30 weeks pregnant. We took it very slow with lots of bench time. I didn't ride any of the thrill rides but had a very good time in Fantasyland. I loved Soarin'! Enjoy all of the shows and entertainment. You don't realize until you can't ride the rides how much stuff there is to do at WDW. Also, take naps and if your wife likes to swim, take advantage of your resort pool. Floating in the water feels great when you are pregnant. Good luck!

We went in December when I was 27-29 weeks. We slowed down the pace quite a bit (easy to do with a 2-year-old along!), drank lots of water, took a nice long nap every afternoon. We opted to eat table service for lunch and dinner, nice relaxing meals helped me unwind. I heeded Disney's advice on the rides with the exceptions of Soarin' and the safari, but really felt like I was able to ride almost everything I felt like at that time. It was a wonderful trip.

We went one year when I was 5 1/2 mos. pregnant. I think the tips about trying to avoid the heat are the best! You do not need any contractions starting on vacation because you are dehydrated-it happens all the time and then you spend the night at the local hospital getting rehydrated with an IV. Most any ride that is safe for kids under 36 to 40 inches should be ok with your wife. I rode everything possible and loved it. Just remember if you take this trip slowly and not try to pack your days full of too much fun, then in the next year or two you can bring your bundle of joy back with you! :cool1:

Thanks all! I was about to start a similar thread, as I just found out I'm preggers and we're going to WDW next month!

I generally don't like the thrill rides and tend to be very cautious - but the nurses and books have me so paranoid - I started to realize the streets in Chicago are probably more likely to bounce me around than many of the rides.

I'll certainly check out the allears link - thanks a ton! :wave2:

I'm just curious here:

I have no children of my own but these threads interest me b/c I can't wait for the day that i have kids and can pass along the Magic of Disney.

Having said that, I wanted to know: The women here who have said that they did infact travel to WDW while pregnant- Was your trip planned before finding out you were pregnant and you kept your reservations anyway? Or did you plan on going after finding out you were preggers? Again, just curious b/c I would go if I were pregnant I think-but not in the summer months.

Please be careful, especially with the heat as those above have posted.

It's always good to get in that last trip as a couple before you add-on to the family. Just remember to err on the side of caution. Stay away from the mountains at MK as well as Teacups. At MGM, just say no to RnR, ToT, and anyplace you will be out in the sun for a while (like LMA).

Be sure to take plenty of pics to show the little one.

Well - considering our newest DD is a WDW souvie.....I went pg to WDW most of my pregnancy - and living in FL and being a native - you just deal with the heat.

Main thing - take your time....go at your own pace. Wear comfy shoes. Rides didn't matter - but I think mainly because we go so often.

Disney GW - our trip was planned before getting pg and we had a Disney cruise planned which I changed to the next year so we could include our newest!

Disney-G-W- I'll be going in October and I'll be about 5 1/2 mos then. Although we had already discussed going down for F&W (me, obviously for food and not wine now) I was not pg at the time but it isn't an issue for me (and we haven't made ressies yet or have actual dates planned yet). I've been to WDW countless times and know that even though I can't ride the mountains etc. now they will be there when I go next year or the year after. :)

On our last trip to WDW in 2000 I was 5.5 months pregnant and 37 years old. I was in pretty good physical condition and did not have any problems. Just stay hydrated and wear really good athletic shoes every day....not a look I usually sport here at home but gotta be cautious when you're on your feet all day. I heeded all ride warnings and I was fine. Not to mention, I was the world's greatest fast pass runner! :) BTW, we planned our trip AFTER we found out I was pregnant. WDW with a stroller is not me......not that there's anything wrong with that. ;) This year we are taking DS6 on his first trip and can't wait!

While I personally have absolutely no concept of what it is like to be pregnant....as I am male :confused3 ...My lovely DGF has 3 kids, and every time she sees a REALLY pregnant woman walking around the parks she shudders. She told me she did it once with two little ones and one in the oven. She still suffers a mild case of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder just talking about that day. Not to scare you off...just her take on it. ;)

I was not pregnant when we planned our trip last December but we were hoping to be. We had a trip planned for May 2005 but I had a M/C and required surgery literally the day before we were scheduled to fly to Orlando (Guest Services was AWESOME about this, BTW, even with the very late notice). We re-scheduled for December and I got PG very shortly thereafter.

I've been to WDW twice while pregnant (the first time, just over 3 months and we did the cruise as well; the second time I was just about 5 months and had a 23 month old) and never had a problem. And I was considered high risk for my first pregnancy after a late-term MC and subsequent uterine surgery...I went with my doctor's full blessings!

Just let her set the pace she's comfortable at and take as many bench, water, restroom breaks as she needs.

Some of my favorite times was sitting on a shaded bench while my husband rode something I couldn't...I love people watching!

Also, don't forget she can go through most of the waiting lines with you (if she feels like standing) and take the "chicken" exit before the ride loads. This is especially good at the Tower of Terror (you get to feel the ride atmosphere and it's airconditioned and there's a nice little bench inside where she can wait while you ride).

Have a great trip!!

PS FlyingBelle...congrats to you, too! As my doctor once told me, put down the books (they'll only scare you to death) and close your ears to unsolicited, non-medical advice from strangers (your friends on the DIS the exception, of course :)). Just relax, let your body do what it was created to do, and enjoy the most magical time in your life! (And have fun at WDW, too!)
