Planning on a 4 night, 3 day getaway with the family for fall break. Never stayed on site or been that time of year. Was wondering what the crowds are usually like? I've heard a little about HHN, was wondering if it'd be suitable for a 10 and 12 year old? Any tips on which on site hotel is better?

Any help from the vets here would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Mid-October with on-site privileges should be outstanding--prepare to be spoiled. Crowds shouldn't be bad at all and whatever there is you'll skip past a lot of it using your Express pass.

HHN is not recommended for kids under 13 years of age. I've not been but I've heard there is some seriously scary stuff.

I've only stayed at Royal Pacific, but my family has loved it both times.

that thur-fri-sat should be fine.
the studios will close at 5:00 those days due to hhn.

ioa should be open until 7:00 and it won't be effected by hhn.

best to avoid hhn as your children are a bit young for it.

good that you are staying onsite. unlimited usage of the express lines which will come in handy on that saturday.

saturdays do bring in the crowds.

Do you ever go to any of the local haunted houses that pop up around Halloween? I'm not talking about those that the schools or churches do but the big, rather pricey, really scary places.

From my understanding the individual houses in Universal are much like those and the trouble is that the scary stuff is hard to avoid because it's all over. We haven't been to HHN yet but we are haunted house enthusiasts and while we see kids as young as 9 or 10 enjoying the scary houses, they are few and far between. It might be questionable for your kids unless you have a few of those rare daredevils.

Your kids seem a little young to me...maybe wait a couple of years...then go.

Thanks for the input, it's why I really like this place. We've done Six Flags Fright Fest and Carowinds Halloween Haunt last year but they were very tame compared to Universal Studios I suppose.

HHN is a no no I would say, Mid october isn't a bad time to go, the longest queue we found was for disaster and that topped 45 minutes

there is no comparison of HHN to six flags fright fest.
been to both events.

it's like comparing apples to oranges.

I'm in my late 30's and I don't even like HHN :lmao: Definitely wait until the kiddos are older.

I have gone to HHN 7 times. It still scares the crap out of me and Im 30years old.

As far as the wait times in the middle of October they won't be bad. If you have an express pass they are almost non existent. I highly recommend staying onsite. They Royal Pacific is the least pricey and is most kid friendly.
If you choose to stay onsite you will be able to enter the parks earlier and use your room key to skip the lines.
