We are flying in to Miami and staying one night then driving to the Keys the next day. First time in the Keys and would welcome some trip advice. Places to see and restaurants to eat at. We are going 4/16-4/23. Thanks:goodvibes

I stayed at the Southermost Hotel. It was nice. My favorite thing was the sunset Cruise so pretty!!!
If you get on the trolly look for a driver named MR Ed. He was great! He told all the facts about the island he was alot of fun!!

Where will you be staying? If you will be in Key West, I have some ideas, but if you are staying in one of the more northern keys, I'm not much help.

I've never been, but I want to. Soooo, you just HAVE to do some type of trip report when you get back, ok? The Keys look like they would be such a wonderful place for a vacation!

I'm counting down the days untill my vacation!!!:cool1: I will post a trip report.

If you can, go to Key West.

Not to try to convince you to go to Key West or anything...:rolleyes1

Piecey that's a great picture. We will go to Key West for a day.

I've heard that the key lime pie is awesome down their. Does anyone know a great place to get some?

We stayed a few years ago at the Marriott Key Largo. Beautiful hotel! We rented jet skis right at the hotel, went on a snorkeling trip, but the highlight was our dolphin swim. We did this at the Dolphin Research Center. It was awesome!

If you don't mind a chain, the Hampton Inn & Suites in Islamorada is really nice. There is a beach out front with jetski & boat rentals. Tiki Bar on the beach also. The Islamorada Fish Company at the big Outdoor Sportsmen store is really good. Eat right out over the water. The grouper sandwich is great! Also, in Marathon, there is a place on the water called The Keyes Fisheries. They have boats that go out and everything is fresh. It doesn't look like much, benches & picnic tables outside, but so good! The lobster roll is awesome!

I couldn't resist- I had my piece at the original Margaritaville.

We also ate at a restaurant on the pier down by the square..
Wish I could remember the name!

They had the BEST shrimp, said the people I was with. (I don't like seafood!)

The Blonde Giraffe in Key West is known for their Key Lime Pie, was even on Food Network, but our vote goes to a place in Key West named Kermit's. They have everything Key Lime, from candy to lotions. The best is the Key Lime Pie on a stick, which is a sliced dipped in chocolate!

We were only in Key West for a day when we docked from a cruise, but we had a great tour of Hemingway's house and his six-toed cats followed by a great lunch at Louie's Backyard restaurant. I think we had to make reservations for the restaurant, but it was so worth it because it had both wonderful food and a truly fabulous and memorable water view.

We will stay on Islamorada or Marathon

That's where we stay when in the Keys.

Eat at Herbie's in Marathon (mm 53 i think).

It's not fancy and you'll find the locals there, they have fresh fish and good conch fritters and chowder.

Cash only.

I second Hampton Inn & Suites as the best place to stay. There is a restaurant there called Marker 88 (because it is at mile marker #88) that used to be heaven on earth. It's changed hands now, and I haven't eaten there since then, so don't know if it's as good. There is also a Key Lime bakery in Marathon that's wonderful. Islamorada Fish Company has tables on the water, and their fish is good.

I love the suggestions and I'm looking them all up to see if we can squeeze them all in. I would love to see more pics of the keys. Thanks guys and keep them coming.

Thanks Diva of Dragons we have John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park on the our list to do, I will have to look up fort Jefferson.
