I'm going to see the Lion King at the Kimmel Center in Philly tomorrow night! :cool1: I got the tickets for Christmas and have been counting down the days. I can't wait!!! :woohoo: Sorry I just had to share. :)

UPDATE:

The costumes we incredible and so was the music but we had terrible seats.

I sat in the second row in the last seat on the right. I couldn't see 1/2 of the stage and unless the actors were right up at the front of the stage I could only see them from their knees up. Any time the actors sat or laid down I couldn't see them. I didn't get a real feel for the play because I could only see one actor or actress at a time. There were several scenes that take place towards the back or side of the stage that I couldn't see anything during. (The first scene with Scar and Simba talking comes to mind, I could hear them but I couldn't see anything.)When Rafiki opens the show I couldn't see her at all. But her voice was....just WOW, it blew me away.

All that being said it was quiet interesting to be so close and get to see the actors faces and I could see how they we animating the animals. So from that perspective it was great. I hope to go back and sit somewhere else so I can see everything, I feel like I missed so much.

It is WONDERFUL!
I almost cried it was so beautiful--the singing, the costumes! :sunny:
DH, FIL (70's) & DS17 thought it was terrific, also.

You're in for a real treat! :cloud9:

Please come back and give a review! It was just announced that it's coming here beginning of Feb. '07 and I SOOO want to see it! :yay:

We saw it last Sunday afternoon and had a great time!!! We got our tickets last September, during the first week of school and saw it the last week of school!

Have a great time!!! :goodvibes

You are going to love it. Its definately one of my top 5 I think. I just ordered tickets to give to my dad for father's day. He hasn't seen it yet, but I know he will like it. But he wont get to see it till Dec. Its worth the wait though.

I still have to wait! I got tickets at Christmas for the closest show which is in Tucson in September!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But it will be a nice weekend getaway for me and DD17.

You are going to love it!!! I took my ds when he was 3, he hadn't even been to the movie theater yet. He sat there as still as can be and LOVED it!! I was amazed!! I can't wait to go see it again!! Let us know what you think!!

I hope you have a blast at the show. I took a quick look at the website for the tour, and I think you will be seeing the same group (I think there are two touring shows) that DW and I saw in Providence RI last December.

Dan Donohue is a great "Scar". I never thought a villian would end up being my favorite performer.

Enjoy!

I saw on Broadway a few years ago, and it was great. The costumes and stage setups are amazing. You're gonna love it.

Just bumping so folks will see the update. :)

I saw The Lion King in Pittsburgh a couple of years ago. I thought it was great that we got seats in the 4th or 5th row (on the side). I agree with you, they really aren't good seats for this. It was hard to see the procession at the beginning. Plus you couldn't see anything on the floor of the stage. It was neat to see the actors up close.

I am in NYC and going to the Lion King show at 3 for the matinee. Can't wait. My brother got great seats for us.

I'll have to let you know how it all goes.

I am very excited.

However, his best coup was getting Wicked Orchestra seats from Ticketmaster last night. He has been trying for weeks to get non premium seats to no avail. Last night we got em for Sunday.

What a great theatre trip so far.

To the OP - very sorry to hear about your seats. This is a great show, and if you ever get the opportunity to see it again, please make the effort.

We've seen this 2 times, and had seats that were in rows S and V, but our seats were almost dead center both times. In the grand scheme of things, being in the center is more important than being close.

I am pretty much a "seat snob" as we had really sucky tickets to see Phantom of the Opera, and were in the "nose-bleed" section. While I enjoyed the show, I would never spend that kind of money again, for seats that sucked. And, having the lousy seats "cost us" because I HAD to see it again with better seats.

So now, I will not spend the money on a show, if I can't get what I am determining in advance that the tickets will be good. The 2 times we saw The Lion King, we drove 6 hours to see it in Indianapolis, and also about 6 hours to see it in Des Moines. We tried to see it in Chicago (2 hours away) but could never seem to get good tickets.

I went to the Lion King last night at the Acadamy of Music in Philly. Awsome! We had great seats! I was in Box 39 seat 3, the kids and my DM were in box 36 seats 1,2,3. OP if you get another chance try the box seats, pricey but an awsome view. When the birds take flight in one scene there was a girl standing in the box next to us (37?) with a bamboo pole making a bird fly right in front of our eyes! :cool1:

I saw the LK on it's last day in Hartford, June 4th. We had excellent seats - orchestra seats about 20 rows back, left section. I agree, you really need to sit back aways to enjoy the whole show. The costumes were so unbelievable - I loved the giraffes! My favorite "character" was also probably Scar - who'd think the bad guy would be my favorite. I loved his voice - I was surprised at how the voices of the actors were very similar to the movie. I might try to see this on Broadway sometime, but I know the show, including all the stage movements, were pretty identical so I don't feel I missed out by seeing this in Hartford instead of NYC.

Lion King was DDs first Broadway show - she was just over 5. We sat in the 2nd tier on the right side and were lucky enough to have a bird walk by us! We talked about getting tix for the Academy of Music, but they are really hit or miss as far as location - and I've been going there since high school in the 70s - as well as price.

I'm sorry your location wasn't great. Does make me feel better that we didn't invest this time - DH thought I spent enough on Wicked anyway.

We saw the Lion King today in Tulsa and I thought it was absolutely fabulous! We'd gotten the tickets in August and I thought today would never come. It was just the most amazing production. I could go on but I'm sure everyone has gotten the point that I really, really enjoyed it!! :)
