DH and I have been to NYC a few times the last couple years and had a blast. Since DD is 7 and is getting an AG doll for Christmas I thought it would be nice to take her to NYC in Feb for her 8th birthday and visit the AG Place there. I thought maybe stay 3 nights over Presidents Day weekend. We will take the train up which is my favorite way to get ther! My thoughts were to show her the touristy stuff like the Statue of Liberty and Empire State Building. Along with those I thought we would hit the huge TRU and Disney store and whatever else we could find. My question is on hotels. DH and I have stayed at the Drake which was very nice but far from the main drag and also a small boutique hotel that would be boring for her. I was thinking of the Marriott Marquis in Times Square. Anyone have any opinions on the place or another nice hotel right in Times Square. I don't want to be off the beaten path. I love being in the middle of everything so would like any suggestions along those lines that anyone has. Thanks!

Marriott Marquis is very nice, granted I haven't stayed there in a few years. Have you checked tripadvisor?

Thanks. I will check out Tripadvisor!

We stayed at the Hampton Inn Times Square and it was great. It's on 8th (I think) so a short walk right to the middle of everything.

BTW, try to see Mary Poppins while you're there!

DaisyD,
If I were staying overnight in NYC and wanted to be in or near Times Square, I would definitely consider staying at the Westin. I love the Starwood hotels. They are well maintained and have great beds (The Heavenly Bed).

Check it out here, along with reviews.

There are a lot of terrible hotels in NYC. You would think they would be great but once you get inside the rooms they are very old, small and not kept up. Not all, but a lot of them. I got married in NYC and it was the most difficult part of planning the wedding - finding a decent hotel for my guests! We went with Marriott in the World Financial Center. Great hotel but you want Times Square.

Have a great time!

I've stayed at both the Westin and the Renaissance in Times Square. Both are very nice hotels, the Westin being the newer of the two. Can't beat the location of the Renaissance if you want to be in the thick of it. :thumbsup2
