My DH and I (and my kids) are taking my parents (who were Elvis fans) to Memphis, TN. Leaving in a couple of weeks.
Going to Graceland, Memphis Zoo, Pink Palace Museum and Mississippi River Museum. We have never been to Memphis. Just wondering if anyone had any tips, advice and etc. I always have my WDW planned out, just trying to have some kind of plan for Memphis. TIA

Have fun - make sure you and your kids refer to others as "Sir/Ma'am" :)

I don't know how old your children are but The Civil Rights Museum is also there, it is worth it to check it out. You look at the world a very different way after walking through there.

Beale Street you should also check out, its very cool.

Graceland will take ALOT of time. Its not just the house, they have other museums across the street too.

I loved it there and it was just so beautiful and I have a whole new respect for Elvis and will be a fan for the rest of my life!

Enjoy and have a great time!

Make sure you get some good BBQ while you are there! My family swears by Tops but I think Corky's is the more famous one. There is a place called the Rendavous that is also famous, but personally I thought it was blech.

There is a Mall there with an ice skating rink if you need a place to get out of the heat and relax. Can't remember which one it is but I am guessing someone here can remind us. I think there is also one with a Carousel but I don't remember that one either. (lots of help, aren't I!)

Oh! Go to the Peabody Hotel and see the ducks. It is great to get there in the morning and watch them coming down the elevator and into the fountain.

the mall with the ice skating rink was the Mall of Memphis, which is now closed.

The one with the carousel is Wolfchase Galleria, which is nice and in a good part of town. It also has a bungee-cord play area for kids inside.

We live in the suburbs of Memphis, and I will also let you know to be careful which side of town you stay on. Memphis is known for its crime rate, unfortunately.

I would probably stay in a hotel near the Wolfchase area (quick access to I-40 and in a safe part of town).

Oh, I almost forgot: the Memphis Childrens' Museum is really nice, and your kids will have a blast there!

Mall of Memphis was closed and bulldozed, several years ago. Now the area looks like a jungle.

Hickory Ridge Mall was devastated by a tornado a year or so ago; only Sears reopened there (they had a beautiful carousel at one time). The building has been bought by a church, and they plan to renovate but don't know the time frame.

Childrens Museum is really nice; lots of stuff to do there.

Just be aware that this time of year, it is HOT in Memphis, and very humid.

Don't stay anywhere around Graceland.

I can't believe I forgot the Children's Museum--we love it there!

.

Well that is too bad. I haven't been back in few years and didn't realize Mall of Memphis was gone. I do remember hearing about the tornado but didn't realize that Hickory Ridge never reopened.
