Hi all, i'll be heading to Las Vegas w/ my guy in a few weeks. we'll be there on saturday and sunday and will go up to LA on Monday. I've been looking into hotels in Vegas for sat/sun and they are really expensive on saturday nights!!! Has anyone been to a hotel in Vegas (on or very close to the Strip), that is not pricey? I really wanted to stay at one of the "cool casinos" like the Bellagio, Mandalay Bay, etc. But like i said, they are pricey.

Also, is there anything to do in the area? We would like to take a mini trip perhaps to someplace outside of Vegas. Anything you would recommend?

Thanks!

Hoover Dam-Try looking on travel sites like expedia to see what prices hotels are being charged, and call them to see if they have any special rates.

That sounds like fun! When we went, we stayed at Excalibur. I am guessing my mom got a good deal on it, but she planned the whole thing, so I can't tell you how to get one. Excalibur is the medeivel (sp?) themed one. It is on kind of an intersection with MGM Grand, Luxor, and i forget the other one. They had walkways connecting to eachother. Go check out New York New York as well as the MGM. The MGM has lions and you can walk through a glass tunnel with the lions laying just feet above you. It is very cool. Also, go to the M&M store and the Coke store. They are both awesome.
We went on a day trip to the Hoover Dam while we were there. It was OK, but certainly not what I expected. I was a bit disappointed.
I am sure you will have a great time!

Go check out that singer performing at the Hilton... ;)

Check Excalibur as they tend to be a little cheaper. Also, check the Boardwalk hotel. It is on the strip next to Monte Carlo. It isn't one of the big fancy ones but is right in the middle of everything. A little farther North on the strip, check Imperial Palace.

Basically, all the hotels hike their rates on the weekend. We just got back last Saturday. We paid between $69 and $89 for the weeknites and $139 for Friday nite. Saturday would have been even more but we left that day.

When ar eyou going to be there?? We are going on October 2nd....woohoo!!
I am SO excited. We are staying at the Mirage.
I do know that many people have had luck getting the Venetian for $99 a night on Priceline. Go to www.biddingfortravel.com for more info.

Things to do.... let's see.

Valley of Fire National Park, Hoover Dam, Red Rocks...... and when you get ther you will find brochuers with DOZENS of things to do outside of LV.

But if "I" were going for that short a duration, I would even want to leave. There is SO MUCH TO DO right in LV! I've been there 4x and I always find things to do, and I don't gamble all that much.

Well there's a Motel 6 on Tropicana, just off the strip! I think there is a Holiday Inn on the strip also.

If you have your own car, I would urge you to consider staying off the strip - lots more reasonably priced choices: the Gold Coast, any of the Station casinos, Sam's Town.

For a trip outside the city, you could try Mt. Charleston.

Check out the Rio near the strip; all suites. Very nice. Much less expensive than Mandalay Bay, Bellagio or The Venetian (all of which are beautiful).

Station Casino's is a good idea - but the Green Valley Ranch (GVR) is about 7 miles from the strip. Great place and a nice casino. But it doesn't have the strip look and feel.

How about one of the older places on the Strip like Harrah's or MGM - they should have decent prices.

Excalibur is a bit too plastic, even for LV....

Check out the Las Vegas Review Journal (local paper) at http://www.lvrj.com to see if they have any deals...

We got a GREAT deal at Bally's several years ago. They should give you a deal since it's late summer. :earsgirl:

Try this site for some great deals

American Casino Guide

DH and I actually prefer staying Downtown but everyone is different. It is real easy to get to the Strip from Downtown (by bus or cab). Fremont Street is really cool and the Golden Nugget is my favorite place Downtown. If I had to pick a place on the Strip, I would pick Paris.

Have a great trip :flower:

We went to LV in June and stayed at the Imperial Palace. We loved it! We got a room for $69 per night plus match play coupons, a couple of buffet meals, etc. It is right in the middle of the Strip (across from Caesar's Palace, next door to Harrah's, right on the monorail line). We saw the show that they have there too, Legends in Concert, and it was awesome.

Imperial Palace

We stayed at the Luxor and absolutely loved it. I think we paid $89 a night, but that was a few years ago. I do, however, wish it was more centrally located on the strip. We decided if we ever go back, we would choose the Aladdin. We did the Hoover Dam and didn't really get much out of it, but that may have had a lot to do with the 114 degree temp. Most of the bigger hotels are worth going into just to look around. Especially Ceasars. LOTS of shopping. We missed out on going to Fremont St. I have heard it's really a neat place.

We stayed at the Tropicana, its on the corner across from MGM-Excaliber-NY NY they are usually pretty descent priced and the pool area is very nice, not a big themed area just lush foliage and a tropical theme!

We have stayed at NYNY and Flamingo Hilton when we went to LV. Both were nice....Flamingo Hilton is mid strip which was more convenient. If you dont oppose staying a block or so from the strip....the Orleans looks pretty nice and seems to have good prices.....usually less than 60 a night.....We have eaten at the buffet there and it was very good and super reasonable. We will try to stay at the Mirage on our next visit.

Your best bet would be to stay at The Orleans or Gold Coast, they are reasonably priced for week-ends, if you want to stay on the strip, then try Excalibur or Barbary Coast for a decent hotel nd not too expensive ! also, book through the hotel website for the best price

The Boardwalk hotel is well placed on the strip, and I don't think it's as pricey as the others. It used to be the Holiday Inn. We love the buffets out there, that was our main event, since neither of us are gamblers. Hoover Dam was also our day trip out, and we went on a tour that included a tour of the Ethel M's chocolate factory. You'll have a great time!

Like someone else said here before, what about the HOLIDAY INN BOARDWALK? It is old and cheesy, but it seriously right in the middle of EVERYTHING. I stayed there the first time I went to LV when I surprised DH with a birthday trip there while we were dating!

See, I don't even gamble and I have been to LV 5 times. Here is where I stayed and what I thought:

HOLIDAY INN BOARDWALK - OK if you are looking for CHEAP. The location is GREAT, but the rooms are just plain old hotel rooms and the hotel is just that...a REGULAR Holiday Inn. Although I was surprised that they DO have a casino!!!

HARD ROCK HOTEL - I HATED that it was off the strip! When you don't have a car, ANYTHING off the strip is just plain old INCONVENIENT. Plus, every girl there was like a supermodel and I felt so funny sitting by the pool!!!! And it's EXPENSIVE!

TROPICANA - I liked this place. It's a LITTLE old for LV standards, but it has a GORGEOUS pool area and the prices are still pretty good!

EXCALIBUR - I liked this place. We got a really good deal when I went with 4 other girls. The rooms were a REALLY nice size! 5 of us stayed in one room! The prices are still fairly reasonable at this hotel.

MIRAGE - I LOVED this place!!!! It was my favorite yet! The resort itself is beautiful and the grounds are gorgeous. Plus, they have dolphins and white tigers there. Oh, they also have DANNY GANS performing, who is AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! The rooms were a really nice size and very well appointed! It's definitely not one of the cheaper resorts.

OK, as I was typing this, I thought of another place for you that is NOT expensive at all! CIRCUS CIRCUS!!! It's on the strip (kinda at the end of where all the action is, but it's still on the strip!!!) They always have AWESOME deals!

As for things to do AWAY from LV, I really can't recommend anything. There is SO much to see and do in LV at the hotels and casinos alone that I don't see you will have time to take that long trek to the Hoover Dam or Grand Canyon. You decide.

Enjoy your trip!!!!!!!
