We went to a recent 7:15 show. Check-in started around 6:45pm. They also took a family photo right after check-in. FW was the first ferry stop when we left MK. I'd suggest being on the ferry no later than 6:30. We prefer being early rather than rushed, so we got there a bit early. There's a playground nearby for kids, and a general store nearby to wander around in if you have some time left over once you get checked in for the show.
How often does the ferry run and how many people does it hold? Does it run more frequently around dinner time because of all the guests who I assume also conclude that MK is the park most convenient to Hoop Dee Doo? And lastly, how many people does HDD hold?

If I remember right, the ferries are at the docks about every 15-20 minutes or so. The smaller launches hold about 20 people, and the bigger FriendShips hold around 40 people. The launches run to MK, CSR, FW, and WL. The FriendShips run to MK, FW, and WL. They run steadily all day - there's no increase in ferry traffic at dinner time. The show we attended last month was a packed full house, probably at least 400 people.
no harm going early and looking around. I like to give myself a lot time in case something doesn't go smoothly. Hoop Dee Doo is great fun. I'm sure you'll have a blast!!
