Just a quick question about the battlefield. Is it part of the military park, or a separate place? We are planning on getting the tour guide that drives your car, and narrates the tour.

Is it possible to go and see the sights at the battlefield without paying for the $50 tour packages. When I looked at Yahoo, it seemed like all the sights there come with a price.

We are also planning the ghost tour at the Farnsworth house.

It is what it is. I just want to know what to expect, TIA.

Spending 2 days, but since it will be 90 degrees, need to take it sort of easy.

Try this: http://www.nps.gov/gett . In the gift store (or online) you can purchase a guide book that comes with a CD. Pop the CD in the car and follow the directions and listen to the naration.

I agree. Get the CD. Dont remember how much it was but I'm sure under $20. You follow along with the CD in your car. Its well marked.
They have a very nice, new visitors center/museum. I think it just opened last year. Admission to a film and the museum was $7.50 (last year) Very reasonable I thought.
We had a nice day.

And the land of little horses if you have kids... we really enjoyed the little horses. It's a tad pricey if you're on a budget but a nice break out in the trees for lunch. We like the buffet at Hoss' too. We only live 30 mins or so away so we're fairly easy to please though...

My husband and I visited Gettysburg when it was 90. We were miserable and just discussed it again yesterday because DS's class is taking a trip to Gettysburg this fall.
We spent most of the time in our car and would have preferred to walk a lot but it was just to darn hot.

Oh, I know. I really hate that it will be so hot. It is the only time all summer that all of us are off work/school/camp/babysitting etc. etc.
That is why the car tour sounds good. We only live a little over an hour away, so we won't worry about fitting EVERYTHING in.

Thanks everyone for the responses. Wish us luck.

It was the only time we went as well as Mom had 4th of July week off from the job she had at the time.... My cousing got heat exhaustion or heat stroke and had to go to the hospital.

Take along LOTS of water and stay hydrated!! It'd probably put alot of wear on your car to run the AC while you're going abt 20MPH during the audio tour.

Leaving in an hour. Praying that we don't melt, and wishing my DD would listen to me and take cooler clothes. Right now the fashion diva has on a tank, and shorts which are fine. The scarf around her neck and the cardigan--NOT so much:rolleyes:

Thanks again everyone. The map was great, and DH is now very excited about the caves:thumbsup2
