I'm a big camping guy but I don't really like WDW itself. My family wants to go to Disney World and we'll be staying at Fort Wilderness. I need some tips on fun things to do at FW so I can minimize time at the parks.
Thanks
George

Wow - you sound just like another guy I know!! lol

I'm going to move this thread to the main Fort Wilderness board, where you'll get more answers. :)

There are tons of things to do....

Outdoor Movie
campfire sing-a-long
horse bake riding
Watch the fireworks from the beach
ride bikes
rent a golf cart
Go "looping" with your golf cart
watch for wild animals (deer, bunny's etc)
fish
kayaking
Hoop De Do review (did I spell that right?)
Lay in a hammock on the beach
swim in the pool (soon to be redone :))

These are what come to mind immediately...I am sure there will many more responses.

Play Disney putt-putt at either of the two courses.

Take the free Wilderness Lodge lobby tour (ride bikes or walk over from FW)

Go explore the other resorts/ride the monorail (ask to ride up front with the driver-kids love it). hint: easier to do during late morning-to-early afternoon. Start by taking a boat ride over to the Contemporary.

Have the kids (depending on their ages) participate in the CM-sponsored games/activities daily at the Fort. Check the list posted at each comfort station for activities/times.

Rent a pontoon boat at the FW marina and tool over near the MK, GF, etc (ps-they offer a AAA discount).

Tool around the shops at Downtown Disney (keep a firm grip on your wallet)

Watch the fireworks over the MK from the little peninsula on the lake at the Polynesian (requires a bus ride). You can see most (but not all) of the fireworks from the FW beach.

Some of these are in the Fort, some nearby. I tried to list things that don't cost TOOOO much money.

Sit with your feet up in a chair under your awning and watch the world go by!!

Yeah that is DH favorite thing to do...even if he doesn't catch much.

I'm counting my blessings ... DH likes to go to the parks even more than I do!

One of my favorite pasttimes at the fort is eating!
