Going to Downtown before flight home

I think this question has been addressed before but I can't find it, so here goes:

Our flight home isn't until 4:00 and we've decided to go to Downtown Disney after we disembark. Did someone say that you can arrange this on the ship before you leave and Disney will transport you downtown and back to the airport? Or are you on your own for getting transportation? There's a large group of us (about 28 people), but I'm not sure if everyone will decide to go. Thanks for your help.

There's no DCL transportation there, but we did it on our own by renting a car. Our flight wasn't until 7 so my folks met us there and we killed the day shopping and eating (LOL - how we could eat anymore is beyond me!!). If your group is large, it may be worthwhile to arrange a van service to pick you up at the port, then again at DTD to take you to the ariport.

What is Disney Downtown? Where is it and what can you do there? We're getting into Orlando the day before the cruise and we thought we might spend some time there. Also, how far is it to the port from Orlando? We're wondering if we want to go on to the Radisson at the port when we get in at 2:00 and then drive back to Orlando for the evening.

Downtown Disney is shopping/dining/entertainment area adjacent to Pleasure Island. It is located in the WDW area, but is not a park. It is more like an outdoor shopping center. The port is about an hour away, you will probably not want to go back and forth for the evening. The other option is to stay near to WDW or the airport (DTD is about 15 mins from the airport) and then drive to the port in the am. It will all depend on what you want to do.
