going to disney&uni again! Sep 2011

She is staying here and going to a local college and working part-time. She has been looking for a job to no avail so far but I know she will find one.

Michele, I remember that feeling of not wanting my son to grow up and then he was graduating and working and starting college. It was a little bit of an adjustment for me. It didn't seem to phase my DS much at all. He was just ready, kwim? It seems like our children are far more ready to do things than we are to let them! :confused3

Having a couple of older kids and some smaller kids really does help me appreciate all phases of their lives. I even like this new phase of marriage and in-laws (me) and a (gasp) girl around. It's weird getting used to my oldest child being married and my youngest child not being quite 7. Weird, I know, but it's how it worked out.

And Molly, congratulations on getting the learning work finished! And how cool that you finished up 1st grade. Do you have fun summer plans?

Very cool! My dad tried to get me to go to a community college (note: this is just a thought jumping off of your statement...I don't know what sort of college she's going to, of course!) for at least a year, but I wasn't having it. Since I had NO clue what I wanted to do with my life, it really would have been a better decision at the time. Of course if I had, I wouldn't have gone to Tacoma, and things would have been very different...but that's info I have now. Then, I should have stayed local, at least for a year or so. (on the other hand, since my mom was destined to divorce, move cross country, and re-marry, "local" would have had its definition changed quite drastically!)

And now all this talk of college/marriage is starting to freak me out! My boy's just a baaaabbbbeeeeeee.....

:3dglasses

Summer plans are artistic in nature. He wants to take at least one session of art camp, we want to learn to knit, then there's playing the recorder. The latter two are things that we should have done during the school year but I couldn't figure out how to do it all.

We'll also probably visit my brother, and maybe go camping a few times. I definitely want to enjoy the summer, not sit around! Alas, here it's almost 2 and we've just sat around! Whoops-a-daisy!

******

Really sad about the Vancouver rioting nonsense. We were just up there, and are going up again on Sat to pick up Robert. Can't stand that we're going to see the aftermath of looting.

Shannon, I am happy for her and I look forward to seeing her future. I am just sentimental because I miss the shy little blond girl that she was.

Molly, Kacy decided to start at the local community college because one of her teachers told her that she could get her core course for the much cheaper price and that it would transfer to a larger college to finish her major.

The whole Vancouver thing is so sad. I don't understand the mentality that it takes to do things like that.

I think it's a great idea. And also in retrospect I cannot believe I passed up on the UC system. What was I thinking? And my dad worked in the system at the time! On the other hand, I would have had to live with him, after my mom left, to keep a CA address...and that certainly was something I NEVER had any interest in doing.

I understand. All I could think about that age was getting out and away. Kacy is independent but in a different way than I was. In a way I wish she were more ready to go out into the world.

At last I have something WDW related to talk about.

Not about this trip, but still. :)

I've been wanting to go camping (despite my arachnophobia), and I think we're going to do a bit of it this summer (yay!). I wanted to make sure I knew what we had, see if anything needed to be replaced or fixed or whatever. So we went to our storage unit in the basement garage to check it all out. Yes, the three of us went down there...it's father's day, so the father got to be involved in MY project. :rolleyes1

I decided that we should open up the tent to make sure it was fine. So we actually put the tent up in the garage. :goodvibes Everything sort of connects to itself, so while you wouldn't want to sleep in it since it wasn't staked down, it was OK for our purposes. Oh it was fun!

Eamon is so much older than the last time we camped, and it was fun to see how much he could do. Very helpful. Would be more helpful if we had just one more kid (hear that universe? it would be helpful!) so we could get the 4 sides of the tent all at once, but it worked out nevertheless.

So now I want to get an *extra* set of camping equipment and then get an Owner's Locker out at WDW, keep the camping stuff in it, and then when we don't have DVC points and want to camp and visit WDW, we could stay at the campsites at Fort Wilderness easily. :hippie:

Did you know that tent-campers at Ft Wilderness often hook up *air conditioners* to cool the inside of their tent??? Sounds crazy AND awesome at the very same time, doesn't it? :cool2:

I think I understand using the air conditioner in Florida. Right now I wish we had air conditioning. Most of the time I am okay with the heat but for some reason today it is taking it's toll on me.

Camping sounds great and E is at a great age to help you. When they are E's age they like to help. My son Loren likes to help still. I starting teaching him how to bbq today.

Oh, yeah...we didn't have AC in our house in San Jose...awful awful awful. And for whatever reason we only ever had ONE fan! I don't know why, now that I think about it. Anyway, yeah, CA heat with no AC...ouch.

Aw, Loren gets to learn the art of BBQing! Very fun. :)

He was thrilled.

You know that we have hot streaks but we get wind and most nights it cools off. We live in an area that gets a lot of what is called Delta breezes so it cools off.

We are going to San Francisco on Wednesday and I can hardly wait. It is supposed to be 64 degrees that day. I can hardly wait.

Gosh, if you want cooler weather you could just come up here. :) We could get QueenDoOver down here and have a party.:3dglasses

I would like nothing more. We are talking about going on an Alaskan cruise and I would like to go out of Seattle. It's been years since I have been up that way.

Ooh, very nice.

Due to the timing of Robert's Canada trip, on the day we spent in Vancouver, all the ships were gone. But as we left town after picking him up on Saturday, we caught just a glimpse of one cruise ship at Canada Place, as we turned away from the Coal Harbour side of town, and it made us yearn for a cruise!

I think that we hope to do a repositioning cruise...in the past they have had cruises that go from BC all the way to San Diego, at the end of a season to move the ship from point A to point B for the next season. Hopefully we'll be able to do one of those! We loved the sea days more than the port days. :goodvibes

There are Alaska cruise that actually leave out of San Francisco but we want to do a land/sea cruise. For that we have t either leave from Seattle or Vancouver. Leaving from San Francisco would be so convenient for us.

We both want to see Denali. It seems that it is on both of our bucket lists without realizing it until recently.

The nice thing about the Alaskan cruise is that the weather isn't hot and sticky. So you can cuddle without overheating LOL. People thought it was weird that we did Alaska for our honeymoon, but ewwwww, who wants to have a honeymoon when you're sweating buckets just sitting on a beach? Bleah, no thank you.

(no offense to those who had honeymoons on broiling beaches...totally would NOT have worked for us, but I do recognize that others do not feel the same way!)

We went to Disneyland for our honeymoon. And for my TMI we conceived Kacy while we were there. I call her my most expensive souvenir.
