Can anyone tell me what kind of immunization shots where required for your trip? I am going to make an appt. with a travel doctor, but would like to know in advance what any one else ended up getting.

Also I have been hearing horror stories about how hot it is there in the summer, and I'm concerned with my daughter getting sick from it as we are from Canada and not used to heat like that.

I think the only additional shots we got were yellow fever.

We went in May/June. Beijing was probably high 70's. Hong Kong was high 80's and unbelievably humid. No one on our trip got sick from heat or otherwise. ABD is excellent about providing water and air conditioned spaces.

I've been to China 4 times, twice during July (HOT!), but never had any immunizations for the trips. It's really not necessary in the locations that tourists visit.

ABD doesn't require any shots for China trips. My DH and DD are going in May...just make sure you get your China visa's.

But I would recommend getting Hepatitis A vaccine since it is spread through the fecal/oral route. That is if you haven't had it already. I remember getting the vaccine at my dad's insistence, before going to Taiwan to see family. If you are adventurous and plan on trying any of the street food, definitely get the vaccine. You have enough time to get at least one dose which should be enough to protect you.

We went on this tour in 2009. As posted above, no shots are required. I talked to my doctor and he suggested the Hep A, Hep B and a flu shot. We followed his advice and had no problems. Have a great time! It has to be my all-time favorite trip!

We went last July 4 and it was very hot everywhere - record heat of 104 the day we were in the Forbidden City - and incredibly humid in Chengdu and Hong Kong.
There was always plenty of water on the bus. The heat mixed with jet lag can take a toll.
It is a great trip though - have an awesome time!
