Im going to disney in Aug and im going to buy a camera. My one problem is i have always bough dispoable ones and now im ready to get a nice new one, a real one that is. I have no clue what brand to buy. I have heard cannon is great but there are others as well. Any advice i would welcome it. I am looking to spend anywhere from 100- 150 $. Also what is the memory card i think i know what it is by now but please clairfy it. I like to thank anyone who can help. Thanks!!!

I would reccomend a nikon cool pix the newer one they are pretty nice and I have to say I am a nikon girl!!!

I would suggest you go to Bestbuy or Circuit City... go to the camera department and look at the Canons... No point in giving you a specific model number because those two stores seem to be running random sales depending on where you live and what they are pushing on any given week.

At your price range, you need to look for a Canon Powershot... they have lots of different models that vary depending on the amount of zoom the pixels and every other little bell or whistle. At this point in time don't worry about pixels... any new camera will have enough pixels for you to make clean 5x7 prints... so that isn't an issue. You should look for one that is in your price range and secondly has as much optical zoom as you can find in your price range... The memory you need for the camera is an SD card... look for a 2GB or 1GB card... just buy them based on price don't let then suck you into buying a ultra III or any super fast card because on a point and shoot it isn't going to make a snowballs difference in how the camera performs.. it will only cost you more for the faster cards.

And while I'm a dedicated Nikon user, I think for the price Canon makes the best entry level point and shoots for the money.

Thomas988, I find your post interesting. I have a complaint on my Olympus Stylus 770SW being soooooooo slow. Best Buy highly recommends buying an Ultra card. Would it make that big of a difference or am I wasting money. Also, they told me that a 4gb card would make it run faster than a 2 gb. Is that true?

Take your camera to the store and ask them to put a "fast card" in your camera and show you how much faster it is. I think you will find the difference disappointing. It is not always the time it takes to put the image on the card as to how much processing your camera does. Yes your camera processes your picture just like taking it to Walmart.

Great advice! Didn't realize I could do that. Thanks!

thank you to everyone ....i appreciate all the nice generours help ...i think best buy is my best bet..i have bought a lot from them and have had tons of success so once again to all of you who replied thank you very much and i will let ya know what i ended up getting

My family has gotten a ton of wonderful photos from 3 different Pentax P&S cameras. Quality on my son's 5mp Pentax was better than on my 8mp Fujifilm P&S ! But I got great detail and quality on a Nikon Coolpix and an older Fujifilm camera as well.....

As a Nikon fanboy, Canon has the best Point and Shoots in my opinion.

Best thing that you can do is just go to a store like Bestbuy, or the like, and play with the cameras and see what you like. There are big differences in how each one will fit in your hand etc. We have a Kodak, Canon, and HP point and shoot cameras, and a Nikon DSLR and have not had any problems with any of them.

Just to address the cards, it will make a difference if you remove the card from the camera and download them to your PC by plugging it directly in. It will read from the card faster. But it will only make a real difference on bigger cards that a bunch of pics on them.
