I'll be booking our cabin within the next couple of days. I'd like some opinions, please!

We're going to book a Cat 9 stateroom, hoping to upgrade to a Cat 6 in the spring when we get our income tax refund check. But, in the meantime, and in case we decide NOT to upgrade, I'd like to pick out a decent cabin in a Cat 9.

Which side of the ship do you recommend? We're doing the 7 night western caribbean itinerary. I think I read something about one side of the ship facing a part of Castaway Cay that wasn't as nice as the view from the other side...?

I know about the "noisy" rooms on deck 2, which is where our cabin will be. But can you make any other recommendations? I think we'd like to be sort of near elevators but NOT immediately right there where they open.

Thanks for any tips on picking a Cat 9 cabin! :)

You can't count on a certain side of the ship facing a certain side of any port, including CC. Sometimes they back the ship in to port, and other times they front it in. We asked the captain about that and he said there were many factors that contributed to that decision, weather, other ships, cpt's preference, etc....

In regards to being "right where the elevators open". I actually prefer this. We've never heard any elevator noise at all and it's so convenient. I would book as close to the elevators as possible. Also, there are lots of Cat 9's that are not in the "noisy" area. Check www.dcltribute.com for the numbers of the noisy rooms and just don't pick one of those numbers.

Here is a link to the "noisy" list:

We've stayed in one of the "noisy" rooms and didn't notice any noise! It all depends your perspective I think. To me, any cabin on the ship is wonderful! I agree though, being closer to the elevators (preferably not the mid ones) is really nice.

Just a note, if you do decide to upgrade in the Spring, expect the category 6 to be a LOT more then than it is pricing now. Category 6 room are VERY popular and they fill up quickly due them being cheaper then the Category 5's. Also, due to Early Booking Savings, you'll pay a lot more as you get closer to your cruise date. I have the 10/30/04 sailing booked now for about two months, and the price of my category 6 has already gone up $200 and I'm still 15 months away from sail date!!!! I've looked into possibly trying to cruise earlier possibly in May, which is also a cheaper time to cruise, and the category 11's are still coming up $799 per person showing it's not a popular cruise, but the category 6's are coming up at least $500 more per person than I'm currently paying, due to the Early Booking Savings being eliminated. So, if you REALLY want a category 6, I'd consider booking it now, otherwise you might find it out of your price range by spring anyway.
