Hello! I'm new to these boards...they're great!

I've tent camped at Fort Wilderness before and can't wait to return, but this next time in September I'll be 22 weeks pregnant with my first (vaca planned before I found out :goodvibes)...I was wondering if anyone here has ever been in the same boat and had any advice? Any suggestions about what space/loop would be best?

Just make sure you have AC for your tent or you will be plenty miserable even if you weren't pregnant. It's still the "good ole summertime" in FL in Sept. ;) We only tent camped 3 nights total and called it quits :rotfl: since then it's been trailers and now MH - just didn't enjoy roughing it when it rained
Otherwise, except for the AC, someone else can chime in for your other concerns. Have a great pixiedust: trip!

:welcome: to the DIS Camping Board.

I admire your dedication.

I would think you would want to request a site near the Comfort Station and also near the bus stop.

Did you reserve a Partial site (which are tent friendly in loops 1500 and 2000)? If so there are sites in both loops that can fit both requirements.

Be safe and have fun in September! :3dglasses

Woooo you are awesome :goodvibes

I am also pregnant and was going to stay in our air conditioned popup this August at the Fort...I however wussed out :lmao: I don't want to scare you....honestly the reason I changed our ressie was because I have three other children (11, 4 and 2) and the thought of getting us all showered in the comfort stations after a hot day at Disney, to immediately start sweating again...ugghhh..didn't want to go there. Not to mention cooking...

However, since this is your first...you can give yourself some downtime when needed. Without a doubt I would plan some pool time every day...
Also, being near a comfort station will be helpful for those...ummm....frequent trips to the bathroom....lol! Drink tons and tons of water :) If you can get an air conditioner rigged up in your tent (not sure how to do this, but many have posted how!) I think you will appreciate it!

Have an amazing time....the Fort is awesome...and at 20 someodd weeks you will be able to enjoy yourself! I know there have been a few ladies who have braved out pregnant camping in the hot weather at the Fort...hopefully one of them will chime in!

thanks for the advice guys...i guess its still going to be HOT in September, fortunately I have a back up plan in that my parents will be in a cabin so I can always bail on the camping to use their murphy bed :rotfl: i consider myself semi-crunchy, but if its over 85 at night...i'm outta the tent and into the AC!

excited to go even though I'll have to take it slow! we're going to the hoop-de-doo for the first time!

As far as pregnant camping goes, you can't do much better than FW. The bathhouses are straight luxury compared to most campgrounds. Last time we tent camped at FW it was early October, and I was also pregnant! I put a good fan on a suitcase next to my airbed and had it blow straight at me, and I was fine.

DO make sure your reservation is for an actual site. I wouldn't recommend the primitive tent area. My favorite loop is "Big Bear", the path behind the bathhouse leads right to the evening campfire and outdoor movies. :)
DO rent a golf cart for getting around. The place is HUGE! If you plan to get one from FW, reserve it well in advance.
DO arrive early and ask for a site close to the bathhouse at check-in.
DO pack snacks. Late night food is harder to come by at FW than at the resorts. Make sure you are prepared for off-hours cravings. :)

DON'T trust the weather reports. Make sure you have ponchos with you at all times, and bring a LARGE tarp (bigger than your tent) in case it rains, you can tie it up over your tent.
DON'T forget to plug in your golf cart.
DON'T over-schedule your days. Park hopping while pregnant is tough. Allow time each day to relax, dip in the pool, enjoy a boat ride to Wilderness Lodge, or stroll around Downtown Disney.

It rained bad during our final tent experience and we were not prepared, so we got flooded. Hubby and I ended up squeezing on to the floor of my parent's RV, and we bought a pop-up almost as soon as we got home. Other than that, I didn't have any issues.

I am now pregnant with baby number two. Will be 32 weeks on our next trip to FW in November. So, let me know how it goes! ;)

I was 6 1/2 months pregnant and we tent camped at the Fort. We had a fan and everything was great. Just make sure to have an air mattress it made me more comfortable when sleeping. We were in the 1500 loop and the walk to the comfort station was not bad even the 11 times during the night!! I think it made it even more magical being pregnant but that is just me. Just make sure you sit and rest as much as you can, take the bus and boats as much as possible and just take it slow and you will be fine!

Perfect!!! It will be nice to have a place to cool off if you really need it!!! Hoop de doo is AWESOME!! You will have an amazing time! Oh and I forgot who said it...but I second the air mattress and a site with water and electric...it will make it much more pleasant!

HAVE FUN!!! :thumbsup2
