Yes, it's true! I can hardly believe it myself but 2012 began with the news that we were to become grandparents  and that after 3 years of engagement our daughter was getting married :scared1: here she is with her sister and DH just before the ceremony [note the comfortable shoes :rotfl2: ]

Anyway our son also graduates this year, so between paying for the wedding, two kids at uni and keeping holidays for the graduation and now imminent first grandchild  [who will obviously have to be taken to DLRP :thumbsup2 ASAP] we really thought a trip was out of the question :sad2:. I was particularly sad about that as it is our silver wedding this year, and we didn't go last year with the explicit promise we would have a special anniversary trip this year :sad1:.

As luck would have it, the week my son heard he would actually graduate :cheer2: and the date of the ceremony, there was a FLASH SALE :dance3: It was cheaper to go to DLRP rather than spend a few days in Glasgow after the ceremony and to my delight DH and eldest son [after all we are celebrating his graduation :rolleyes1 ] said "Book it!"

I was so excited I didn't stop to think, booked seven of us into the Sequoia Lodge , Montana room lake side, booked the ferries from Shetland, ryan air from Prestwick got very excited indeed........................then realised that
A] Its Bastille Day :scared1:
B] We may have a ferry strike and not be able to leave Shetland :scared1::scared1:
and C] Its the weekend, in HIGH SEASON :scared1::scared1::scared1: What was I thinking?????????

Hopefully Dreams, getting to go at all [big bonus] and the longer hours/hopefully nice weather will compensate for the crowds :rolleyes1.
We are booked into Blue Lagoon our first night for the last sitting at 9:30pm and Walts our second night at 7pm....otherwise we have no plan, any tips for dealing with summer crowds much appreciated :thumbsup2

Finally.........................PLEASe, PLEASE, PLEASE don't let me actually become a granny while I am at DLRP, Laura is due 3 weeks after we return, I am so worried she might go early :scared1::scared1::scared1::scared1:

Thanks for reading, I might even try to do a trippie this tiime

Kaye

PS I am excited about the graduation too ;)

Have a nice trip, but I bet it'll have nothing on the birth of your first grandchild!

We always go in high season, but you just need to expect queues and take it as it comes really.

If you plan on eating counter service at any point, go outside of a normal eating time to avoid the huge queues!

And because it'll be hot, I recommend you buy your bottled soft drinks at the vending machines in cafe hyperion if you have change, very rarely queues here.

I know I am so excited about becoming a granny pixiedust: Like I said to DH at the time " I will just have to treat our grandchild to a DLRP trip every year!" to which DH said " Is that a treat for them, or a treat for Granny?"

Thank you for the tip about the water/drinks :thumbsup2 if you go every year in high season it can't be too bad, is it?

What wonderful news!!!!!!!! Def a good excuse for a trip!!!! Am sure Laura will wait for granny to come back... My mum did same thing to me and came back when I was just over 37 wks!! (had him next day but that wasn't normal so don't worry lol)

Do follow above tip on drinks and fill ur bottles at drink fountains... Saved us loads....

Ull love it tho n maybe they will do sumthin special for Bastille day??

Oh what fun :cheer2:

You'll be fine with the extra hours and all and if baby does decide to come early French hospitals and maternity care is second to none and DLP can give him or her a AP for life :rotfl:

Normally you get an extra special firework display for the 14th :thumbsup2

Thanks Carrie Cat, There's only 7 of us going as laura and hubby are staying here  , she is too far on to fly :sad:. I would be gutted if she had baby and I was a thousand miles away....I was just so excited by the flash sale that i booked to coincide with Toby's graduation and then realised how near her due time it was  .
Oh it would be nice if there was something special on at night :goodvibes we are thinking about going exploring through the day on Saturday. Next year we are planning a massive family trip for over 30 people and we have never seen the offsite hotels.......we may do a little tour :goodvibes

Kaye

Oh course I forgot that you were flying

Well in that case little one will stay firmly in place until you all get back ;)

Sooooooo exciting Kaye, July will be a whirlwind for you pixiedust::goodvibes!

Wow, everything happening at once :thumbsup2

And yaayyy for loads more DLP trips in the years to come :cheer2:

The crowds are certainly doable. We often follow the covered walkway to get round the park quickly - great for getting to BTM and pirates :thumbsup2

All the restaurants were absolutely packed in the evening, so you're doing the right thing with dinner reservations. I think people were waiting for the parade to finish before eating which made the evenings really busy at all the food outlets.

Hope you all have a fantastic time :goodvibes

Thank you Julie, I don't suppose you would know a good shop to buy baby things in? I don't usually do any shopping on holiday but reckon I will need to bring home some very special souvenirs this time...wonder if they do a 20th babygro ???? :rotfl2:

Kaye

They used to do beautiful baby things in the Disneyland Hotel. When I was pg with Lewis we got some lovely stuff in there :goodvibes

I love that mickey shapesorter and the Aristocats vest.......wonder if that could do a boy or a girl :rotfl2:

:lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl:

:cheer2: Congratulations on impending Granny-hood!!! :cheer2:

Sounds like you have a very busy & exciting time coming up!!

Enjoy it all and I hope you have a fab trip (in spite of French holidays, crowds, etc, etc!) I think booking your meals will be a good idea, then you know you won't have to queue, and you can guarantee yourself a sit down in the middle of the day too.

Exciting!!!

WOW what an exciting time for you.:cheer2::cheer2:

What a great idea that you will have to take the gran child to DLP.

Have a great time. We have been in August and tend to eat mid afternoon as there are no real crowds then. The extra hours in the summer really make up for the crowds.

Have a fab time.

You really have a busy few weeks coming up, but they should be wonderful too. You could try looking to see if they have a babies first christmas bauble in the shop inside the castle. :goodvibes

Just catching up in readiness for your trippie ..... and well done Laura for waiting! You must be so relieved! :goodvibes
