Going to Alaska, but not with Disney :-(

I know I should be excited that I'm going on a cruise to Alaska in June, but I'm really nervous that it isn't a Disney cruise. We are sailing on Royal Caribbean and it is my first cruise. I feel safe with Disney, like if I have a problem they will be there for me. It's a long cruise a long way from home. (I should mention DBF and I are going on this cruise for his best friend's wedding, so we didn't have a choice of the cruise line.) My brain tells me I will be fine and to jump at the chance to see Alaska and that Royal Caribbean is a reputable cruise line. I could use some words of encouragement from any of you who have had a great time on a non-Disney cruise. And if you have any tips for a first time cruiser, like meds to prevent motion sickness, I would greatly appreciate it.

Can't say anything about Royal Caribbean as I've never cruised with them but have cruised twice to Alaska which is amazing! You will likely be cruising the inside passage, which is really calm so you probably won't have any issues with motion sickness, we never have and I am very sensitive to motion.

I did an Alaska cruise with a friend who has motion sickness. She never had any issues. It is really calm waters but absolutely spectacular. Enjoy.

I agree with the others. a) Very calm waters in & Around Alaska. I had NO problems whatsoever with seasickness, unlike in the Med! But get some Bonine or seabands, just to be on the safe side!

I've sailed on Royal Caribbean 3 times (although not to Alaska) and it's a wonderful cruiseline. You're going to have a FABULOUS time!

I haven't had the opportunity to sail to Alaska yet--those summertime cruises are hard for me to schedule--but DH and I cruise a lot, and everyone we have ever spoken to about Alaska cruises has been positive about the experience. You will have a blast!

My family sailed Norwegian to Alaska in May 2009. The ship was fine and the crew very friendly.

We actually had cold and wet weather most of the way up. Weather similar to PCC 2.0 actually only less wind. You may have perfectly fine weather or some combination of it. Just be prepared for anything.

I get a prescription for Meclizine, just in case. Have a great time!!!

Meclizine is the main ingredient in Bonine, and you can buy it OTC. I bought a bottle of 100 from the Sam's Club pharmacy for under $5.

Royal Caribbean has two ships sailing in Alaska. Radiance does one-way cruises between Vancouver and Seward, and Rhapsody does roundtrips from Seattle. My guess is you'll be on Rhapsody, and there is a greater potential for rough seas because you will sail west of Vancouver Island.
