Going through the queue question

Not sure if I spelled that right.

Can I stand in line with my husband and two kids with the baby and his stroller and then not go on the ride? My 2yo is too young for many of the rides, but I know the 9yo and the 7yo will be going on many and I'd like to stand in line with them and see the attraction. We may or may not do the baby swap.

Can this be done? (Can you tell I'm a Disney virgin? LOL!)

You spelled it right...I think...

As far as I know, there should be no problem with that...except the stroller. Strollers have to be parked outside before you enter the queue, but you can always go through the queue and then opt out before you get on the ride. To be safe, you may want to double check with the greeter CM, the cast member standing at the entrace, about the correct time to let another CM know that you won't be riding so they can show you out before it's too late.

If it's a ride with a height restriction, I'd imagine that you'd have to explain your sitch to the first height measurer and then the second height measurer would be the one to show you out of the queue? Anybody else know for sure? I'm not positive.

I'm glad you know about child swap.

You'll want to ask the cast member at each attraction about the proceedure, if you are not using child swap. Many Disney attractions enter one place and exit at another (usually through a gift shop) so it is not just a matter of waiting for them to return.

One of the truly amazing things about Disney is that the parks really are geared to the whole family. They don't generally clump the thrill rides together and then have youngster rides somewhere else. Most areas will offer a bit of both. This is nice because you and the little one may be able to do an alternative while they're riding their big kid thing.

Everything true there. I can tell you about our experience when behind a family going on Dinosaur. Mom, Dad, child about seven, and child in Mom's arms. Mom explained to each Cast Member that the smaller child was not going on the attraction. Just before Dad and son climbed into the ride vehicle, Mom and other child were shown out. I've found that you can bail from just about any Disney attraction right before boarding the vehicle.

You cannot take the stroller in line with you for any attraction. There are some people you will see, but in that situation the child has a disability and they have a Guest Assistance Card which allows them to use a stroller as if it were a wheelchair.

You can wait with the 2yo and when you husband and two kids come off you can give the toddler to your husband and generally they will allow the two kids to ride with you, so they do get to ride twice while you and your husband each get to ride once.

OT: This "last minute" exit allowing you to not board the ride vehicle is often called the "chicken exit".

Sign that used to be near a stairway at the boarding area of Splash Mountain: "Last chance to exit if yer still skeered of gitten wet"

I thought that if the child is under the height restriction, that child was not allowed into the queue area at all - saw many CMs explaining this to many families at MK, especially at Splash Mt and Space Mountain.

WDW is designed for families to be together and ride together so you won't have to separate as much as you may anticipate. Generally speaking your 2yo can go on about 90% of the attractions at WDW. There are a few height restricted rides that he/she won't be tall enough and no the 2yo will not even be allowed into the line. Also as PP's have mentioned strollers are not allowed in the lines at all.

FWIW my dd's have been riding everything without a height restrction since they were about 15 mos old. There are a few you may want to skip, like the haunted mansion, depending on how you think your 2yo will react even though they are not restricted.

I would definatly try and get a copy of WDW for kids by kids online or from the library and try here for more help on travleing to WDW with toddlers:
