They check everything even the little bag we had bottles in.. It helps if you have the bag or bags ready to be looked in before getting there instead of waiting for that one person who holds the whole line up so it takes you even longer to into the park your dying to get into...
Yep and when we were there in Nov/Dec they started requiring us to take the fannypack off before they would inspect it. It was a pain but maybe it was temporary? Not sure. I know they enforce different levels of security at different times of the year or for various reasons.
Anyone back recently can tell us if you still have to take the fannypack off??
To get through security faster, I placed items in my fanny pack in plastic sandwich bags. That way I could just pull the contents out, contained in the bag for inspection, and then place them back in the fanny pack, without scattering items all over.
That's possible, but I think itmore likely that it was for the convenience of the bag check CMs (and I don't mean that in a bad way). In the beginning, most of the bag check CMs didn't even touch the bags, they just let the Guests hold them open for a quick look inside.
I used to see a lot of people wearing waist bags or shoulder bags who would hold the bag open while it was still on their person, but the CM couldn't actualy see into them for various reasons - short Guest/tall CM, Guest's arm or other body parts blocking the view, Guest overloaded with stuff and can't get the bad open enough to see inside, etc.
By actually putting your bag on the table, you make it much easier for the CM to all the way see inside and to check all the pockets.
Universal's bag check was always a bit more thorough, as their bag check CMs had little sticks that they used like tongue depressors, to hold a bag open for better visibility. Not that I think the bag checks are a real security measure anyway, as much as they are a public-relations, feel-good excercise.
yes you still have to go through bag checks. i'm one of those people who HATE bag checks. i mean, i understand why they do it don't get me wrong, but why is it.....if women have purses(which some of us really need for feminine things and medicine).....why do they only check our purses and never men's pockets? i just get aggrivated with it. *sigh* sorry. lol. anyway yes they do check your bags. luckily i've never had one CM actually touch my bag they just kind of look into it and let me through(i HATE it when people i don't know touch my purse). of course i usually bring a very small purse anyway.
maybe it's because if you put a gun in a purse it won't show from the outside but if you put a gun in your pants pocket it will show clearly from the outside.
Regardless, the bag check is plain stupid. I brought a huge honkin' camera bag and all they see was the top area of the bag. For all I know I can bring a bomb, gun, a couple of grenades, plastique and several other weapons.

I think it's more because a purse is a detached bag that can be searched without touching the person carrying it, while searching someone's pockets (man or woman) requires a personal invasion that only about 2 steps away from a strip search.
I hate the bag checks, too, which is why I carry everything on my utility belt on in my pockets. The shorts I wear to WDW have pretty big pockets; my Speedlight flash unit fits in the front pocket neatly, with plenty of room left for a bunch of other stuff.
