With bag checks being more thorough and people without bags being funneled through metal detectors, I was wondering what to expect going through with my kids. In the past, the kids and I would stay with DH, and if we had multiple bags, DH and I would split them between us and one of us or our oldest daughter would push the stroller through. Can we all still go through the bag check line together? I assume we will need to keep stuff off the stroller like sweatshirts and the like, so it is accessible too. ?

My biggest concern would be if the kids have to go through the metal detectors, I would want one of us with them.

TIA

I am going to watch your post here for news, and advice. We are leaving for our trip in about 4 weeks with 3 kids, plus a brand new baby. I completely understand the need for security, and always appreciate it when CM take it seriously, but with the little ones, I am concerned about the extra work that will go into getting through those gates with a stroller, baby carrier, all the equipment that goes with little ones. I worry both for us, and for those standing behind us.

The metal detectors are after the bag check, so I would set up like you would at the airport: Have one adult first with minimal to no bags, so they can be with any child that may be selected for the metal detector.

I was at WDW earlier this month, and they are checking everything very carefully. They will look in the bottom of your stroller and I even saw them pull back the top and look in that on a few occasions. You won't be able to just push it by the check. My best advice is to not pack anything tightly. They will pull things out if they have to to see the bottom of the bag or stroller. One family had all of their food in a clear bag, which I thought was very smart. Security just looked it over. And don't forget to have all of the zippers open on your bags, that saves a ton of time.

Are you planning on having the kids go through the no bag line without you? Why don't you just stay all together in the bag check line?

We were there a few weeks ago- as far as bag check, nothing has really changed other than they look a little closer. You can line up however you always have. As you are exiting bag check they will decide whether to pull you for the metal detectors- we got put through a lot (we did a lot of hopping this trip to get stuff done before the hurricane- and did 3 parks a day more than once) One day at EPCOT International Gateway, they were making everyone go through, until the area got so backed up and crowded they started letting people bypass. It is very inconsistent as to who they will pull. Sometimes it was the whole family including DD, 10. Once it was DH and I and they had DD walk around the detector and wait for us as they said no kids needed to go through. Other times it was DD and I, but not DH. Other times they would pull DH or I, but not both. It's not that bad and really does not take much extra time. It was just annoying because we got put through a lot.

Oh- also, be sure and check your zippers when you walk away. They opened a small outside pocket on my purse where I was keeping some money, and I did not realize they had not zipped it back until after some of the money I had in there had already fallen out somewhere in the park and was lost. I also had one time where they pulled stuff out of my purse to look under it and something dropped on the ground and I almost didn't notice. One of our MNSSHP hard tickets was lost too and it had to be reissued and I'm pretty sure it fell out during security check too when they were pulling things out to look under them. Not all of them are as thorough, and just a few were actually pulling things out of my purse, but there were definitely some of them that were going through every single purse pocket and digging around in the purse.

They have been asking one parent to wait with the stroller while the other goes through the metal detector and then switching. This happened at AK last night and MK this morning.

We instead had one person go through the bag line with everything and the other take the kids. That didn't always stop the additional screening (I swear it happened to me at EVERY.PARK -- I must look shifty) but then we just had the kids wait on the other side of the metal detector and wait and it was not an issue.

The past couple of days security has really been beefed up due to people trying to bring weapons in the park. Expect for every member of your group to be screened and every bag checked.

I'm usually the only one with a bag, but we still all just stick together. Last time we entered EP IG, I was chosen for the metal detector and I just brought DS along through the detector with me. I never see the point in splitting up as we all want to be together to enter the park together.

We split up and the group with bags went to bag check, while I took 4-5 kids with me through the no bag line. Of course I was picked for the medal detector, which the kids thought was hilarious. The just stood to the side by it while I went through. We did the same thing the numerous times DH was picked to go through, I just stood with the kids off to the side. From what I saw they did not let 2 people go through it together, but might possibly let one of you go through to show the child it's no big deal if they do pick one of the kids.

Also, traveling with a group, gallon and quart size zip-locs were so handy. I packed like items together, snacks in one bag, autograph books in one, spare clothes back when the kids were smaller. Seemed easier for security to dig through the bag as they can lift bags out if needed. And less chance of something falling out unnoticed.

In October my husband went thru the bag check line with me and he didn't have a bag. We were both asked to go through the metal detectors, me at HS and he went through at Epcot

Wait, are you talking about at the airport or disney itself? I know things change day by day but are there now metal detectors at disney? When we went in January there wasn't.

Yes they have them at all of the parks. They pick people at random to go thru, I only had to one time. On the other hand my bagless nephew always had to go thru the metal detector.

I have a defibrillator and can't, by any means, go through a metal detector. Can you ask for a pat down if chosen?

guests without bags are more likely to be chosen, as well as guests who have cargo pants with pockets that look full.
You may not be chosen at all, but if you are, just explain you gave a medical device implanted and need an alternative to the metal detector.

my husband usually went though bag check and the kids and I went in through the no bag line. I got asked to go through the metal detectors once (I was wearing a dress). The kids came with me and were able to stand off to the side but they walked through the metal detector anyway lol. It was easy and wasn't a big deal.
