From Newport Beach , CA I'm going to a business convention near Orlando without my wife and DD14 & DS16. They encouraged me to go ahead and spend an extra 4 days at WDW by myself! I just am now planning this trip only 4 weeks away-by myself. I'm excited but feeling a bit out of place. Do solo people go to the dinner shows & fantasyland rides? I really am not sure where to start- feeling out of sorts because I'm used to spending nearly 6 months planning WDW every 3 years or so.

I'm making my first solo trip in May. At first I felt scared to death, but the more I plan the more excited I'm getting. Think of all the places you wanted to eat, but didn't because your family didn't want to. Eat your way around Epcot. Not only can you ride anything you want to, but you can ride it repeatedly if you want and go through the singles line with very little waits. You can sit on a bench, eat a Mickey bar, and just people watch if you want. You can get an early start or sleep in late and just lounge around the pool if you want. Go to PI and enjoy the Comedy club or Adventurer's club.
I'm doing three tours (Sedgeway at Epcot, KTTK at MK, and Backstage Safari at AK). If you have an AP you can get 15% off any tour. Being alone you will be more apt to really talk to the CMs. Take the time to really look around at details of the parks and hotels. Spend a couple of hours at the spa (sauna, whirlpool, massage, men's facial, etc). Do things you wouldn't do if your family was with you. RELAX and enjoy the atmoshere!!!!

I've been to Disneyland Paris and Disneyland itself solo and I had a fine time at both places. I didn't go to any dinner shows or such, but as aubriee says, there are many things you can do or eat without having to worry about others in your party. And also as aubriee suggests, DTD and PI are good social places and areas where shows will please solo travelers.

In DL, I always found people to talk to and such, so it didn't feel like I was alone much. Waiting on lines, sitting and eating at benches, there was always a conversation to be had. If you intend to go on rides, some offer single-rider lines (at least at DL). Rides like Splash Mountain, where a group of 4 may leave one seat per log empty.

Once you get there you will be fine. I have ridden rides by myself before when DH and DD have gone to do something else. Take advantage of the time to do things on your own schedule and enjoy things you may have otherwise overlooked had you been with your family.

I say, go to epcot and drink your way round the world. great way to meet other guests and cm's.

When I was on the College Program, some of my best times were when I went to the parks solo.

It was so relaxing, yet so productive (as productive as I wanted to be). Only having yourself to worry about, it's a lot of fun!

Have fun, and enjoy! The world looks a lot different when you're solo :)

You can eat at the counter of PrimeTime, MGM, and Rainforest, AK, if there is an empty seat. No waiting!

Four days in the World, alone! I'd maybe do the thrill rides as a solo, R'n Rollercoaster, ToT, the Mountains and Dino, but by 11 every day I'd be @ Epcot, sampling the Liquid Bread and gathering a head of steam for PI. I always want to stay at the Adventurer's Club longer than my wife does. Under these conditions, I'd close the place. Have a ball, I'm extremely jealous.

I always hit WDW when on vacation, oops, I mean, business trips!! I agree that hitting the Rose & Crown to make friends is a great place to start an afternoon off. I hooked up with some other conventioneers and we hit House of Blues to see 3 Doors Down last year. Nothing like tipping a few back and exchanging "war stories" on the companies' dime!
However, I do feel alittle akward during the day, getting around and experiencing the parks alone. While I'm not "needy", I do miss my wife and friends if I'm there alone. For me, the Disney magic doesn't shine as bright without them.

Thank-you so much for your funny comments and support. I probably shouldn't go to the Rose and Crown though before Mission Space?
I still l can't believe I'm going there Mar. 13-18 by myself! Plus I literally have not yet made any hotel, restaurant, or show reservations. If someone had told me this I would think they were nuts. Here I have reading Disboards for the last two years since my last trip and BANG - I'm going to DW with no plans. But with Disboards- I'm sure I'll figure it all out.

Next week will be my 4th Solo trip and I can tell you that it is a great opportunity to do things exactly the way you want too! I do everything that strikes my fancy. Last time I rode Pooh alone, and I do Peter Pan and do not feel the least bit odd about it. On top of that I am 56 years old. You can go on Mission Space and Test Track through the single rider line which is almost a walk on. I have ridden SSE three consecutive times and numerous loops on Tomorrowland Transit, try doing that with someone else along. In short, anything I want to do, I do. I will admit that there are times when it would be fun to share some of the experience with someone else but the freedom kind of balances it all out.

I've done WDW solo quite a few times and it's a blast. I would suggest doing the Segway tour in Epcot. It's alot of fun and a totally different way to experience Epcot. I wouldn't wait too long to get some of those PS made, though; crowds will be starting to build for spring break.

Have fun!

I don't know if you've posted there yet, but don't forget that there's and "adult and solo travelers" board right here at the dis! I'll bet you can get some really great tips there. Just thought you might not have noticed it if you're used to going as a family...

Have a great trip!!!!
