I am staying solo for two nights in July and am having a difficult time picking a resort. The options available to me are SSR, OKW, VWL, or BWV.

I would perfer
1. not a long walk from bus to room.
2. a "safe" environment going alone as a female. ie: where would you feel best sending your wife, mother, dauther alone?

I am not one to go to the BW clubs or to PI.

Thanks for your help!

I really like the BWV, the boats are right out the back doors for epcot & MGM, and the buses for the other places are right out the front door. TMHO. :cool1:

It probably depends more on what parks you'd like to spend your time at. If you prefer Epcot and MGM, then your best bet is probably BWV where you can either walk or take the boat easily enough.

Overall OKW and SSR probably have the shortest distances to the busses from all the rooms, but that's because there are multiple bus stops so be prepared to ride a little.

If you really want to go to MK most, then VWL is your best choice. The boat to MK is handy, and the bus stop for the other parks isn't too far of a walk from the villa's entrance.

At this point in time, you're looking at summer months about 3-months away. Availability may already be an issue, depending on what type of room you wanted, and the specific dates. (weekdays will be harder, weekends easier)

I stayed at OKW solo once. My room ended up being a bit of a walk from the bus stop. At night, I wasn't completely comfortable with that as some areas weren't very well lit. I should have asked the CM to change my room assignment to one closer to a stop.

So you might want to pick BWV and possibly VWL (never stayed there, so not sure of the set up) for the security of enclosed hallways. ITA with what NYCDVClover2000 had to say about BWV. If you do end up at SSR or OKW, I strongly suggest requesting a room near a bus stop.

Thank you for your help so far! I called yesterday and had all the DVC's open except BC. I know that some people worry about booking a last minute trip but I called one month before my trip in April and could even get VWL then!

Anyway, I really plan to relax during my solo days and probably head to MK. I may pick the VWL because they have a nice food court I can use. I am already staying at OKW during the first part of the trip with my sister.

I've stayed solo at OKW, BWV and BCV. I felt safe at all of them. Since I spend most of my time at EPCOT, though, I prefer BCV & BWV. I love traveling solo since I always meet interesting people. I find when I'm with friends I don't socialize as much with other guests. When I'm by myself I have no problem asking people if they need help with directions, etc. I turn into Ms. Disney Tour Guide.

Have fun!

If I were going alone, I'd pick one where the studio had a sofa and bed since I would be alone and want that arrangement. Based on that BCV if I were spending most of my time at Epcot or MGM and WLV if I were spending lots of time at MK--I might even split the stay so I could have the best of both worlds! I can't say I've ever felt unsafe at WDW except one time at DTD.

THANKS! I called MS and booked VWL for two nights. My trip starts at OKW with my sister, we then all move to AKL where my friend joins us, and finally I end the trip by myself at VWL. I can't wait!!!

great news!!! have a fun trip!!!

remember water, water and more water - heat and humdity....

if you talk them into it - take a break when the parks get really hot or crowded - and come back that night using EMH....

Well, my first piece of advice would be don't go solo.. TAKE ME OLONG WITH YOU...but not sure how I could sell this one to my wife..sooo...

I think you made the right choice in VWL...you just can't get much closer to the bus stop than VWL. You also said you aren't interested in "party central" so me thinks VWL will be just wait you are looking for. If it's a warm day then just hop on the boat and cruise around the lake chattin with the "captain."

I'm not sure if I would be uncomfortable with any of the resorts for my wife and/or daughters traveling alone, but I would think that VWL would have to be high on my list of safest resorts.

Is this your first solo trip? I consider BCV "my" solo resort. We bought 100 BCV points specifically so that I could get it. I've also spent some very nice times in a BW view studio at BWV, but I love BCV. Wherever you choose to stay, you'll have a great time. I think DVC studios are perfect for solo trips. In the words of Samantha Brown, "you've got your own little homestead." Turn on the TV, put your feet up on the coffee table, sip your beverage of choice....priceless!

For Member Homecoming in 2004, I stayed at SSR solo. It was great!! I went to the spa, worked out, walked to Downtown Disney. Soaked in the hot tub at night (very well lit) and just had a great time. They have roaming security guards there and I always felt safe even in the evening hours.

I did have a car, but the bus stop was right outside my building.

Good choice! You will be close to the bus stop and just a relaxing boat ride from the MK. If you want to relax for a bit in the evening, the lobby in the main lodge is a great place to hang out and people watch.
