Hi all! This will be my first visit to Disneyland and I am leaving all the Grandkids at home and this Grandma is going by herself. I am going Jan 30 thru Feb. 3 and staying at the Grand Californian. A few questions to all you experts!
1. Will there be a discount coming out for resort like at WDW?
2. What is the dinner package for World of Color like? Is it worth it?
3. Looking at the Fantasmic dinner package as well. I thought this would be worth it not to have to fight the crowd for a spot?
4. Would love some suggestions for food, shows etc that I shouldn't miss. I am used to WDW and lots of kids but this time I am on my own schedule,,haha

I am coming from Iowa so I hope to leave the snow behind for a few days. I will be thrilled if its above 50 degrees.

Thanks for all your help! I will continue to read the forums for all your knowledgeable guidance !!

I wanted to bump this back to the first page for you, so it didn't get lost in the shuffle and you can get more answers!

I love solo trips to Disneyland! I think that there will likely be some sort of discount for the Disney hotels in January/February, but it probably would not come out until winter.

It could be raining -- a lot -- in January, if the forecasts are accurate, so keep an eye on sites like AccuWeather in the weeks leading up to your trip.

I have taken a few solo trips to Disneyland, though it has been a few years.

I got a dinner package for the World of Color that last time I went. I ate at Ariel's Grotto. I thought it was worth it because the viewing spot was nice, and it wasn't super packed in place (again, this was a few years ago, so that could have changed.

I'm going back in November/December, and we are planning on doing both the World of Color dinner package and they Fantasmic dinner package at Blue Bayou.

I really like dining at the Storyteller's Café at the Grand Californian. The buffet breakfast is excellent (on one of my trips I had major issues at the Disneyland Hotel and they comped me three breakfasts and a dinner at the Grand so I've eaten there quite a bit, and I enjoyed every meal I've had there). I also really like the Carnation Café, and Café Orleans (excellent gumbo and Monte Cristo sandwich).

You might want to consider taking a tour. The Walk in Walt's Footstep tour is fantastic.

I went in late January in 2011, and the weather was nice. Jeans, and a light jacket were required many days, but it was quite pleasant weather to tour the parks. As Sherry said, they are expecting El Nino to drop some heavy rain this year.

Thank you so much for the information! the tour does sound like a lot of fun!!

It is probable that Fantasmic will be down during that time. They did not do a seasonal refurb this year because WoC was down for most of the winter. It's A Small World and/or Haunted Mansion may also be down to change from the holiday overlays. January/February is a great time to go because crowds are lower. But seasonal refurbs are common during this time of year. It's also possible that Soarin' could go down during that time so they can change the film and reprogram the effects. But that all depends on when they plan to start running the new film.
