I hope I am putting this in the correct spot.

I have subscribed to a number of sites and facebook group and it seems there is wild/vast variation in what points are worth and I can't seem to figure it out (not resale contracts but renting point to other members or nonmembers)

I have seen some facebook pages with renters looking for 10-12 point reservations and recently and owner posted guaranteed reservations for 21pp.

Is there an average? I'm sure 7 ver 11 month window plays into for hard to get resorts right!...is it time of year?

Like, If I had Vero point and rented them my dues are 4 more pp thanks one other resorts. Should Vero points (maybe not renting at Vero) cost more for renters to use.

Im new to the DVC world. new owners and one stay so far (RR 360 points, Aulani 100 points) and while not looking to rent point out just yet the inability to travel has me wondering. Enlighten me please and thanks in advance.

Points are points at 7 months, so they should all cost about the same. Farther out, the cost will be based on the desirability of the resort and room type. Anything from $16 to $21 is pretty reasonable for rentals. Transfers are a whole different animal.

You're only allowed a single transfer per use year, and that's regardless if it's a transfer in or a transfer out. That means most people who are willing to transfer points want to transfer all their points at once. The price is usually the same, but you'll mostly find only a large number of points available.

Many people are searching for small transfers in an effort to complete a booking. Disney charges $19 for up to 24 one-time-use points which are only available at 7 months or sooner. If you need home-resort points, expect to pay more than that. It's unlikely that you'll find exactly what you're looking for; someone with just a few leftover points that match your need. Since banked points cannot be transferred, the owner would need to have those leftover points and be past their banking deadline, which is exceedingly unlikely. Those small point transfer requests hardly ever get filled.

There are a lot of factors that go into the pricing. Some people may charge less but be more rigid regarding making changes to the reservations. You'll pay more for the 11 month booking advantage or for hard to get times (food & wine, Christmas, etc.). If I were renting my points, I'd probably charge somewhere between what the rental companies pay for points and what they rent them out for. This gives me a little extra and gives the renter a little better deal.

The $10-12 per point offers are likely distressed points that will be expiring soon, either at the end of the use year or points in holding. It's better to get something for these so sometimes people are just trying to unload them.

People price for lots of reasons. When I rent to a stranger....not often when I have family and friends... which I will price $4 to $6 less than what is average because I don’t allow changes, refunds, or subletting.

If I do a transfer, then it’s usually closer to average since I am no longer part of it once done.

There really is no right or wrong way to do or price any of it. It is up to owners to be comfortable with however they do it.

I use the Rent/Trade board as a guide for average and then reduce from there. But, as I said, I want To rent quickly and this strategy works for some renters willing to accept the strict terms.
