I really need to get a new pair of glasses, and I already got the eye exam done, so I have my prescription in hand.

I've priced out a couple of stores, and seem to average about $300 for a pair (including buy one, get one free promos). I normally wear child frames, and get most of the coatings done. I have had transitions in the past, loved it, but not necessary.

I've crossed off Walmart because they won't insure the lenses and coatings for a year, just the frame. I need the warranty on the lenses too.

Try Zenni optical online. They have really cheap good frames and lenses. DD 14 and I have about a dozen pairs of glasses from there. You can't beat their price!!

I did look at zenni, but I can't seem to find frames that match my current numbers (I even checked against the last two pairs of glasses).

Alot of people use coastal.com. You get your first pair of glasses for free. There are a few fees, I think, but after all is said and done I think you can get a complete pair for under $30. I haven't done this because I haven't had an eye exam recently, but many others have and seem to be happy with it.

Do the online chat thing and they will help you. I had to have help the first time I ordered

I just used the firstpairfree code on coastal.com and got my new glasses for $10 total in 3 days! I LOVE them!

It discounted the frames, but didn't discount the lenses. Still near $80 for one pair. It's still better than the stores, and their site was easier than Zenni.

If you can find something close on zenni, it will be fine. The measurements are in mm, so a difference of 2 or 3 or so isn't going to be very noticeable.

Are you a member of Sam's Club or Costco? They have cheap frames ($40-$60), will adjust them to fit you, have the one year warranty and great service.

I second coastal. Check facebook for codes. I got a pair for DH for $14.98 including shipping. Middle DS' glasses cost me $28. With Coastal it's all in what you add for extras. The free pair includes the frame and basic lenses. But if you add scratch coat and all the other "coats" plus go with the thinner lenses (which are recommended but not really necessary unless you have a "coke bottle" prescription) it will cost a fortune. The thing is if you just go with the cost of the free frame and basic lens you can afford to replace them frame and all if they get scratched for less than all the extra coatings will cost. They don't verify prescription so you can order a second free pair if you use a different e-mail and mail them to a friend or relative's address.

I get mine from Empire Vision Centers. $179.00 for 2 pair of no line bifocal glasses. I believe if you just have regular lenses (no bifocals), then it is $99.00 for 2 pair. I have never had a problem with them breaking or anything. They will even let you share the 2 glasses between 2 different people/prescriptions. I used to spend over $400.00 per pair at an independent place, but when I lost my job 3 years ago I had to find something cheaper.

That's the way I look at it. I usually buy my glasses from the two websites I mentioned above, and don't pay more than $10-$15 a pair. Don't need tinting or any of that stuff...just basic glasses. Just ordered a pair from eyebuydirect.com today, @12.90 for lenses, frames, and shipping.

at the eye doctor? We were there one time and a family we knew happened to be there as well. I know that they are low income. They were picking out glasses from a special box that was stocked somewhere else which I assume had deeply discounted frames.

Might be worth asking.

That being said we were very happy w/zenni as well. $12 for perscription sunglasses.
