Going rate for babysitters??

My 17 DD was asked to babysit 2 kids that are 8. She is first aid and CPR certified. What's the going rate in your area? Thanks.

My teenage daughters get $10/hr for 1-2 elemetary age kids. They have 2 families that they regularly babysit for... Date nights, etc...

Younger kids (diapers) or more kids would probably garner more. But 8yrs old is a relatively easy age to babysit.

With a high schooler babysitting elementary kids, I'd say the minimum wage or slightly higher for your area. As someone said, typical 8 year olds are easy and high schoolers are cheaper than college students who are cheaper than parents/licensed providers. $8/hour in a cheap cost-of-living area to $10/hour in an expensive one would be what I'd expect to pay.

My daughter just got bumped up to $15 an hour by a neighbor that has one 8 year old girl and a new dog. They used to pay $10. She doesn't know why they increased but she was happy.

The going rate in my area is irrelevant. What matters for your DD is the going rate in YOUR area. Have her ask her friends what they charge. Ask on FB in a local community page if her friends don't babysit.

That said, in my area, your DD would get somewhere in the $10/hr range. I don't hire babysitters myself, but this has been a frequent question on our local community FB page, and most of the adults pay an older teen like your DD around $10/hr or a little more for a typical Friday or Saturday night parents date night. Rates for daycare type babysitting are generally lower.

My DD19 started babysitting when she around 15 at $10 and now makes $12 (when she is home and has time).
