So didn't pull the trigger until a couple of days ago. Had room only ressie. We are there next Friday with no FP. My guys are veterans...we don't need to do everything. BUT going in blind. Yikes - am I crazy???

Yeah, I would make FP+ as soon as possible.

Based on your signature, you have been to Disney before! You're used to crowds and not getting on rides immediately. You know what to realistically expect with a minimally planned trip. You'll be fine. HAVE FUN!

Other than a few of the majors, you should still be able to book FP+ if you get tickets and book now. If you head to the parks at RD and use your FP+ in the afternoon, you should be fine. I am still seeing ADRs open as people are finalizing their plans. Watch the cancelled thread and you may pick up one or two.

Also, there will be tons of ADR's that open the day/night before. So many people book speculative ones, but they need to cancel the night before.

There is no down side to booking some FPs ahead of time. Worst that can happen is that you skip them and still go commando. ;) And if you decide you want something different when you get there, you can change (subject to availability of course).

One thing a lot of people forget is that it used to be the norm to not have FP. It didn't exist. I know...the crowds are worse now...blah blah blah. That's true. But I also remember going in the heart of summer as a child when there were less rides, and less parks and standing a minimum of 45 minutes to an hour for most attractions. A few were less than 30. Sure...nobody likes standing in line. But it's doable and was the norm until recently. At least these days you have cell phones and such that can distract you...we didn't have that when I was a kid.

At least back when there was no FP at all, there wasn't another huge line of people being prioritized over every person going in standby.

In many ways, I preferred the non-existence of FP. When I first heard of it (can't remember if I saw it at WDW or King's Dominion first) I thought it was the dumbest thing. Waiting in line is part of the experience...like it or not. I figured it wouldn't last and things would go back to normal. I remember when most of the big rides had two lines and you could pick which one to get in and often times you could pick the shorter one because people flock to the same spot. Now there is one standby and one FP. You either dance to the tune of the piper or become a wallflower. I hate it. But, it is what we have today. So that's how it works.

No you are not crazy. I never, ever make my FP until either the night before or even the morning of. Of course, I have no younguns, go at least twice a year and pretty much know what I want to ride and the times don't matter to me because I have an AP and can park hop. I just don't usually know what park I want to go to on any given day until either the night before or the morning of. We also only make one ADR, tea at the GF cause that sucker is hard to get. If I don't get it I don't sit down in the floor and throw a fit and my trip is not ruined but I do enjoy it for a nice break. We eat TS just about every night, we just go to GS at whatever park we are at as soon as we get there and ask them to look up what is available, again since we can hop the park or resort doesn't matter and the time doesn't either, all adults. We enjoy trying new things, same with the FP if the headliners aren't available (I've never not been able to get one by the way) we just try something new or something we haven't done in a while. We are also from back in the day before any kind of FP so standing in line is sort of what we do. Again, because we are adults we can hit the single rider lines and also if they ask for a party of one, we don't mind being separated.

Bahahaha - ok I'm still trying to get past the title. I was envisioning all sorts of things lol.
