We were planning on taking our 4 1/2 year old to Disney World for the first time June 5-9 but have just realized that some of those days are during Gay Week. I understand that they have a plan to attend each park on a certain day. My question is - are you okay with not having to see stuff as long as you stay away from the park of the day or not really? Thanks for the help!

We've been to WDW many years during Gay Days and as long as you avoid their park that day, you'd never know it was Gay Days.

I think a lot of the attendees stay at offsite resorts. One year when we stayed at the Hard Rock, it was more obvious. We saw a lot of couples. They all wear the "Gay Days" t-shirt. We didn't care, but we also didn't have kids back then.

It's not a disruptive event by any means. I really wouldn't worry about it. Just check their park days and make sure to avoid them. Honestly, I'm doing the same thing trying to avoid Star Wars Weekends at DHS :rotfl:

At your child's age reading T-shirts and sexual awareness should not be an issue. Typical 4 year olds would not know that same sex affection is any different from opposite sex affection. Beyond skipping the scheduled park because of crowds I would just have a normal trip.

My kiddos are 4 and 6 and they still haven't asked me why our best friends are two mommys living together with their 2 children. They are not sexually aware and so they do not ask questions.

I just planned a trip as a last minute surprise for my DH and two little guys, 4 and 2. I didn't realize that this would coincide with "Gay Days" but honestly, once we did, I didn't give it a second thought...
Other than the crowds, that would be my only deterrent to visit a different park than scheduled and I have read from someone attending gaydays on June 6, to avoid MK...I am glad to be going to WDW.:goodvibes

We've been a couple of times during this week and didn't notice anything inappropriate. I wouldn't worry about it. Have fun:)!

Just wondering what would be considered inappropriate? PDA's maybe? Well, I don't really care if you are straight or gay, PDA's are gross!!! Get a room!!!

We went with DD who was 5 last year. We were at MK when it was Gay Pride Day. Although there was a huge sea of red, there wasn't anything that she really questioned. There were a few things I questioned, only from a standpoint of being inappropriate. But then again, I see the same thing with people who are hetrosextual.

If it really concerns you, find out the specific dates and plan around those dates.

Im sorry but you are really asking this???? There are straight couple there all of the time and they show a lot of PDA WOW

We have been to WDW during Gay Days twice before and plan to be there again this year. :dance3:We just like to go as soon as school is out and that is when Gay Days is. I have been with a group of teens / tweens and have had no problems. I did overhear the boys discussing that they should not wear red. I think it was a good experience for them. It is not my personal choice, and my son has not known anyone that was gay or lesbian. But I think that it was good for him to see that people are just people, no matter what their sexual preferences are.:thumbsup2 The only thing we saw that was really unusual or out of line was a man in late 50's or early 60's wearing a tiara and a banner across his chest that said Mr. Gay Days Senior or something like that. It was a little over the top. He was actually skipping down main street. We laughed because it was very funny, and that was the guys intention. Other than that, it was great during the gay parade.... the lines for the rides were short.

"having to see stuff?" What stuff???

We have been three times during Gay Days and had a lovely time all three times. First trip DD was 5, again at 8, and last year 12. Did we see "stuff"? Sure if you mean a diverse crowd of people enjoying Disney and their families. It wasn't any different to us then the one time we visited in April. Hotter but no different otherwise.

If you are even contemplating a question like this then maybe reconsider. We want our DD to be aware that world is not all like her family.
On the other hand, maybe a little diversity and tolerance would be good for you all.

sk!mom very well put:thumbsup2

When are Gay Days?

Where can I get the schedule?

I am not worried about it bothering my 2.5 year old but my 12 year old will be the one.

Not every topic or question needs to be turned into a controversial argument. The OP is just asking a question. The "stuff" may not even be about PDA :confused3

I agree. I think some of you are making assumptions just because the question was asked. The OP just wanted to know what to expect.

Sorry been there done that and will never do it again.

I may be in the minority on this board, but we seen some very inappropriate things during our visit during Gay Days 2 years ago.

People on this board says it could happen with straight couples too, maybe we just hit a bunch of bad apples but we never experienced in our 20 +trips , what we experienced that week.

It was pitiful really. There is a time and place for everything and WDW isn't the place.

if you google gay days in Orlando, you can find the calendar of events. We use to always go that week because it was the first week the kids were out of school and it is also our anniversary week. We never even knew it was Gay Days.
